How do you know it wasnt a bass that was already dead, and someone just fished it out to look at it?
winter is a rough time for lmb.. in addition to angler pressure and poaching, they also catch diseases from hatchery trout.
or it could have just been really old and finally kicked the bucket after all that cold rain and wind.

fyi there was a die off at pudd last week. Thousands of 4" shad and abunch of bass.

There were panfish and stocker trout washed up around the north boat docks last week.
