Kay Fujimura of Cypress is pictured here with his giant White Sturgeon he caught today while fishing in Sierra Cove. The fish when taped out weighed in at 58.64 being the high weight and 50.0 being the low.Kay released his catch after the fish was taped out and photographed!

FWIW, the "official" IGFA world record for sturgeon in the 4-pound line class is 50 pounds, zero ounces.
Although this fish was not weighed [to insure quick release], there is a very good chance it exceeds that record, as well as the official Irvine Lake record for sturgeon of 49 pounds, 6 ounces.
Phenomenal accomplishment!

The fish was handled under supervision of Irvine Lake staff. The only time the angler handled the fish is when we where taking pictures of the fish and during which the anglers hand never even touched the fishes gills. His hands are inside the gill plate away from all gills. I personally saw to it that the gills where not touched. After the photos where taken which took a sum total of two minutes. We put the fish back into the water and let the fish revive and recoup from being caught. When I felt the fish had enough recoup time I took a quick length and girth measurement to caculate the weight of the fish. We then held onto the fish in the water until it showed signs that it wanted to be released. The fish swam off into the depths off Sierra Cove from which it came very stongly. I would like to thank Phil Hildebrandt for the phone call about the fish and to the anglers who caught the fish for letting us do our job in handling and taking pictures of such a special fish.

Thats funny It was I who called in to the tackle shop because Phil had no reception and asked me to call the tackle shop. We were filming the funky Fishing Show at that time and we caught it all on Camera. He told us he was using 3# line, and he did very well on fighting the fish. That sturgeon was pulling their boat and the three Anglers all around Sierra Cove. Great job keeping it alive and reviving it Irvine Staff.
