Took a friend of mine, Courtney out Tuesday night for some light tackle action. He and his buddy Todd were out here from North Carolina on business.
We launched out of Huntington Harbor as usual, and headed over to the breakwater. The seas were a little choppy from the typical afternoon wind, but a kind skipper on the radio let me know that they were waning.
The ride over was quick and we set out trolling rods to locate the fish in the choppy water. The bite was a lil less favorable than past posts-Prolly cuz it was low tide but we were able to consistently hook either macks or shorty ‘cudas. No bonito at all today.
We were using U/L Ugly sticks with Shimano Symetre reels and 6lb test.

These guys are bass fishermen and were surprised at the feistiness of our local salties.
Todd caught something quite large on the mini setup. That thing was pulling line like CRAZY! We were laughing our azzes off! He was BEND-O'd!!!! :D

Most fish were being caught right of the south end of the breakwall, but the waves on the outside were less than favorable, so we anchored up right on the rocks near the end.
Here I switched to my dart head Gulp jerkbait in Nuclear Chicken color. This thing was killer right up until the sun went down Nailed Calicos, Cudas, and macks on it.

We had a great sunset, and then a KILLER moon rise from over the mountains.

After the sun went down, I switched to a drop shotted Gulp pearl white 3 shrimp. I used an Owner #1 circle hook. The short calis LOVED this thing! At one point I was 3 for 3! I also caught some mack with this setup.
The bite slowed around 8:30, as did the wind, so we headed home.
Fun quick trip for all.
Once again….I LOVE owning my own boat!!!!
