Some buddies and I went shark fishing a couple weeks ago. My buddy Brandon hooked up to a "Freight train" .... nothing could stop it ended up taking 1500yds of Powerpro when the penn 9/0 broke the main gear and locked up causing the line to snap as he got sling into the railing.... Here's a short video of the 45 min ***** kicking he got...

OK, Gear sleve 98-114 in the 9/0, same as 114H. 9/0 has 5 drag washers the same as the 114h 6/0 & the same drag washers. the only difference in the 6/0 & 9/0 is line capacity. 114H 475 yds 50# mono & the 9/0 675 yds of 50 # mono. When was the last time that reel was seviced and had new Penn drag washers installed with Cals grease? Mabe it is time for a Penn International 80 serviced and ready for the big guys (fishies).
I am still using old school Penn reels 500, 505 & 112H senator and have no problem with jerky drags or break offs.
65 pound test line would require a drag of at least 21 pounds at hook set & the 9/0 Penn cannot do that, unless modified if possible.
I bet it was exciting while it lasted out there and at least you guy's got bit. Fishing is learning and your equipment must match your targeted fishies. IMHO!!!
