Hello there ladies and gents. Are you all ready for another fun-filled IF2L report? I sure hope you all are as this will be one of the most riveting reports that one shall EVER read! Okay, let’s get started.

Short Report:
This is for the lazy people who just prefer fish porn and looking at my handsome mug.
*13 anglers: 8 Ocean Whitefish, 14 California Sheephead, 1 California Scorpionfish, 41 Rockfish, 49 Vermilion Rockfish, 30 Blacksmith*

Keep in mind though that the counts are a little inaccurate as the deckhands were just passively doing their jobs, but they got them done. And, I’ll leave it at that.

Long Report:
Today was the first time that I had fished a moo moo with my old man in over four years so it was something special. The planning for this trip had spanned a lengthy 1 week! And several times throughout the week I made sure that the Walsh was going to head out on the 23rd. Luckily, the boat did make a trip as we had over ten anglers. Yes, if you plan on fishing a half day at LA Harbor Sportfishing be prepared to turn around the moment you arrive because if there isn’t ten guys the captain will not head out.

The morning began with a comfortable rise from our slumber at around 0800. After about a 40 minute drive we had arrived to landing. (Here’s a fun fact, LA harbor sportfishing used to be called San Pedro Landing. Correct me if I’m wrong. This is info from my father.) When we had arrived, which was insanely early, we were the first two customers there for the 1000 departure. Time passed and another eleven showed up so the trip was a go. Awesome!

Throughout most of the day, hell it was for the whole day, we saw 5 knots of wind, fog, and cold weather. That was the unpleasant part, but the fish action made up for it.

The first spot took about 30 minutes to get to. It was at this particular location that hoards of blue perch came flying over the rail some had size to them, about 11”. Along with those bait pecking bastards also came sheephead, reds, and sculpin? Not sure on that last one At this stop my dad managed to subdue a sheephead that would potentially take JP. This particular stop made me a little frustrated as the captain stayed at the spot for almost an hour and a half when 30 minutes into the stop all anglers were catching were blue perch. Any who, that’s all I found to be the most irritating about the boat.

The next spot proved to be just as poor with a side of macks to add to the fun, but it was at this spot that I managed to nail a nice Sheephead.

The last spot was perhaps the most productive for me and my dad. At this spot I loaded up on misc. rockfish such as johnny bass, blue bass, reds, and another sheephead. The beauty of this stop was that most fish came off of my 10lb FW bass set-up so that made for a lot of fun.

Throughout the whole day we fished in 90-100’+ of water so light gear was called for.

Enjoy the pics…

Cool report and pics, nice to see the red counts up,hate to say it but since the new regs on rockfishing I see alot better counts on reds, even in shallow water, nice goats too by the way!
Enjoyed the vid also, one of my favorite parts of the day,is cruising back into the harbor after a day of fishing, don't remember the birds being as aggressive and hungry as they are nowadays in the past.
Thanks for the report, pics and vid.

Thanks Tuna Vic. Those unreasonable regs, if I can even say that, are forcing sportboats to tread new waters if they want to stay alive in a dying industry. Oh and the birds in the video are not too bad the ones up at Marina Del Rey and at Pierpoint are even worse. I'm glad you enjoyed the report.

There you go Bryan. Those are some nice goats. Do you prepare them your usual way in the steamer or do you use a different method?

Thanks for the great report.

Thanks JapanRon. It was a nice change of pace to fish with my dad who I do not get to fish with too often.

Thanks Jimmy it was a pleasure to write. I usually prefer my goats made in a Cantonese style porridge as that stiffens the meat a little and flavor of the fish is released into the porridge. But, steaming is another option that my dad will usually go with.

looks like a nice trip and having fun with dad is always a good thing.

WORD OF CAUTION : that fish in the 4th pic is indeed a SCULPIN and if you grab, get pierced by or sometimes brush against those fins - you will discover the meaning of pain.

SOME people have had to go to the hospital beacause of those fish. ALWAYS be careful around those fish.

Not tt ruin your post but I would hate to hear you found out the hard way.

just an FYI
