Decided to bypass Castaic today and try the 'mid for a change of pace. Only like two or three other boats on the lake today. Had every spot to myself. Couldn't find a striper to save my life, but I sure did find the smallies. They ate the Larry's Minnow pretty good today. Tons of fun on a 6wt.

Beautiful fish for sure! So fun to catch. Yeah, careful with that "Bill Dance grip". a321eric is right..

I dunno, from all those perverted noises bill makes when he yanks a bass off a bed, I'd say that grip is the least of a bass's problems.

Smallies look so freakin cool. freshwater baybass!

Nice job on the smallies.

I've got buddy who swears by those Larry's Flies. He catches Striper, LMB and SMB. sometimes all in the same trip.

Good job Boldfin. What kinda material you using for the olive?

It's just olive bucktail. Real simple fly to tie. Basically just calf tail for the belly, holo flash, and olive bucktail. Epoxy the head over some 3D eyes, and you are ready to catch stripers, bass, trout, or whatever eats a shad or silverside minnow.

I've been experimenting with materials that breath a little more than bucktail but some of them like slinky flash seem a little bright. Also if I get too much white, I think that scares them off too. Thanks for your help.
