Funny how we geek out on this kinda stuff. I assembled and inflated my kickboat as soon as I got home.

I hear you BakoBassin, I've had mine for a couple of years and still go out to the garage and screw around with it all the time. My wife can't figure it out.

lol ya i saw that picture! i like the high rise seat! just like the front of a bass boat! wiht a huge walk platform!

i think it would work as long as the seat is adjustable to youd be able to lower it to use the oars....a trolling motor would work it well but not all day.... you know what would be sweet to mount on these things...

a mount for a video camera!!!!! make my own fishing videos

BakoBassin

That is a pretty sweet kickboat. Thing is, with the trolling motor on the back, might take a while to get used to that, using the foot control anyways. Even on the lowest setting, it's gonna move the boat quite a bit. You really need to have fins in the water or some type of control at all times with a kickboat. They turn around and drift very easily with the slightest bit of wind or current. I just try to pull my legs out of the water and put them on the rest's and the dang thing won't stay straight.

Maybe it's just the way I fish. I like to fish areas thorughly before I move on...if I think fish might be there.

Bako, If you put your oars in the water swung back next to your pontoons you can strap them to the side of your boat and they become small keels and will eliminate that problem. You can check it out on the North Fork Outdoors website and see what I'm talking about. Also with the extra wieght of a battery and motor your pontoons draft a little deeper also adding to the tracking ability as long as you keep your boat level. I can cruise mine like you wouldn't believe. It just took a little time to dial it in. Ron

yeah i hear you, ron said the same thing about control problems, so i was thinking about adding these ?

Hmm, I'd wanna check out someone elses boat before I did all that to mine, to see if I liked it. I'm extremely particular about my positioning in relation to the area I'm fishing. But if it worked good, that would be an awesome set-up.

as long as you keep your boat level

I bet that takes a while to get dialed in.

Hey Z those are cool. I wonder how well they would hold up to loading and unloading and general abuse. They look like they would work well on the water. See how I haul my boat.

Ronira
08-30-2007, 02:52 PM
On my boat it's not to bad because I can move the frame fore and aft to help adjust for the load but it took a while to figure it all out. If you have a motor try the oar thing out.

Z-TUNAKILLER

Ron, skegs glue on so I'm not sure, i haven't even figured out how I'm going to load my toon yet in my old van ( my HD FATBOY is out of the question  ) may have to take the back seat out, not sure? i still have to go and get hardware for the seat and pick up some PVC for a rod holder, waiting around for ups to get my new TM.

I saw an auction on eBay a 4-5 weeks ago and a guy had a custom toon with TM that had a joystick control, his toon also had 2 piece's of T shape aluminum bar, centered and strapped to the bottom of each side of the pons, his description if i remember right said it was for control and as a wear guard for the toons balder cover, keep the bottom from being scraped from loading, unloading etc. , sound good to me ?

I don't know about having one more thing to unstrap on my boat before loading it up Z. I couldn't leave it on or it would take the paint off my truck. Go to the North Fork outdoors site and ck out the oar thing before you try any permanent change to your boat. If you added skegs to your boat it would wreck the river handling and make your toon one dimensional.

Ron, yes Tracking Straight Motor Techniques by Dave Scadden makes sense to me, those guys are pretty sick strapping a 8hp outboard to those toons..... NICE ! did you have a look at the pic's of the sur trak, its the one with the guy tooling around with the TM it looks like there is some kind of small skeg or something on the bottom, almost looks like a keelshield ?

Yeh Z, that boat is a stillwater boat and not very good for river use. By useing the oar technique you don't lose the versatility built into your boat. Best of both worlds if you ask me. Being able to use your boat on class 2 rivers opens up a whole new world my friend. Steelhead and Salmon and Shad all within a 7 to 8 hr drive from right hear and you can use the boat in lakes as well. That rocks for me.

YEAH BOY...... i fish the San Juan river in NM once a year, only from the shore or the shallows in waders, now i got this toon next year I'll be fishing next to all the RF guides and hooking those 22" +++ trout all day long.... and i can fish Navajo lake for smallies.... MAN IS GOING TO BE FUN !

Just received the TM, it had a ship weight of only 27lbs. so it has to be a few lbs. less, I'll hit the HWS, DMV & PB tomorrow morning, hopefully be all set up and ready, the only prob. is testing on the goon this sat. i think will be a real bad idea, maybe wait till Tue. and it will dead ?

Hey Now, just so everyone knows, I called Minn Kota and spoke to TM tech, I was informed that MK recommended at least a group 27 / 105 amp hour deep cycle marine battery, I asked about cold cracking amps. and was told it dose not matter, the 105 ah was the important # on the batt.. that being said i looked on the web & even eBay, you can find 105 ah batt. all over the place in price ranging from $129.99 and up. I called around most of the local battery shops and then found that costco has a g27 115ah dcm batt. for $69.99 so that's what i purchased, 10 more ah , ra-ra-ra .

OK, I'm in the home stretch , toon almost ready, dmv 2day or tomorrow, need more hardware for the rod holders i made, found a nice new tool box stashed in my garage for a batt. box / tackle/cooler/put SH-T in, also a BBQ light with its own clamping system NIB... i have an idea for mounting it to toon for night fish'en......... dude, I'm glad i don't throw away all the stuff i get as gifts...........

man i can not get any sleep, i keep thinking of stuff to add ?

hey, what's the deal with the upper lake at castaic, can i fish my toon on it.... it will be registered and have a trolling motor ?

Ron, is that a piece of 2x4 the back of your toon for the TM, i was thinking the same thing and then saw it on yours? ..lmfao

yay! im back on!!!!

my pontube should be here any day now!!!!!!! i cant wait! all i can think about is add ons as well Z!

i was thinking of a fold down wheel assembly so i can wheel it down to the water and when i get into the water either take them off or fold them up! it should make transporting from truck to water a lot easier!

Hey matt, i'm thinking about that also, i think BPS or Cabela's has 1 that clamps on, I saw on the north fork od web-site http://www.northforkoutdoors.com/ ... they use the front fork and wheel off a kids bmx bike looks like a very good idea ?

matt, just hit a garage sale, pick up a used bmx bike for like $5.00 ?

Hey Z, that's 2 pieces of 3/4 in. oak glued together and carriage bolted to the mount to move the TM back an 1 1/2 inches so the anchor wouldn't clunk against the shaft in bigger waves. I've got a ton of it around if you want some. Wait til you see my standing deck. Hey Matt, whats up dawg. Can't wait to see the pics. Man your always thinking of some gadget to get on with.
