millerton lake and now a member of the DD club

went to millerton lake today 11/11 from 6:30 to 9:30 am. never been on this lake on a boat never new how big this lake really is, so on the water at 6:30 and made the 8 mile run back to were the san joaquin enters the lake the thinking was with the rain thur, friday that there would b run off coming in to the lake. 5 min zzzzzzzzzzz i think could this be my first millerton lake striper. nope it a double hook up of spotted green carp. troll some more zzzzzzzzzzzzz a nother dam carp. about an hour in my troll bam the rod screams zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz as soon as i grab the rod i no this is not a carp after a good fight i get him to the side of the boat and its a striper a big striper. since im alone on this trip i have to net this fish by my self so i bend down and reach for the net well guess what my dumb a ss did yup dropped the rod tip as i went down and out come the hook and off swims this huge striper. i sat there for a good 5 min beating my self up. so back to the troll same area 15 min later zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz grab the rod and again new right away this was a big striper gives a good fight but i net this one this fish is no were near as big as the one that i just lost but this turns out to be my biggest striper. 13.8 pounds and 31 inch long. after 10 min more i had to take off. i will be back for the one that got away.

on a side note went to san luis forbay yesterday and got 75 striper from 6 to 2 all 18 to 24 inch fish at least 25 of those were 4-5 pound fish. lots of double and triple hook ups.

you wont be saying that after i repeat and i do plan on it. i only been fishing for striper for about a year and a half now i only got my boat 5 mo ago. learning every trip im sure there more to come

thanks trail blazer, i think ill spend more time at millerton there are some big fish in that lake even if i only get 1 or 2 as long as there big fat pigs im ok with that. and its only 20 min from my house

no on the inspections and no on night fishing lake hours are 6am to 6pm. when i got there the gate was closed and right at 6 the gate opened its on a timer its a automated gate no one was working the booth this time of year. its run by the state parks

im going to do some reserch on this i see there are campgrounds on the lake on the madera side i wonder how that works if you have a boat. ill get more info on this

thanks mike. im going to spend more time at this lake since i guess you could say its my home lake. let me no when you want to make a trip north we can hit these waters.. bako boys i no will be up this way sometime maybe we can get more to come join.

I'm a SoCal guy and have moved up to central cal. I've been here for about 5 years. I use to always fish millerton for those dd off the shoreline but they seem to have disappeared off the radar. They slowed down dramatically during the last two years. I picked up a boat 3 years ago and have only gone there twice with it. The bite is tough but we know they're there. The reports doesn't show much either. I've been wondering where they've gone. Thanks for the great report. I now know they're still there. Good luck out there!!!
