The long awaited weekend finally came and there was nothing I wanted to do more than to get my lines wet and put my new LC (Sexy Aji) that I won from HG4 to work. Daniel (dlmoo) got to my house around 5am and off we went. There were several AOs in mind, but due to conditions we decided to go to some north AOs that we marked on our Iphones.
We got to our first AO, got our weapons ready, took a second to look at the beautiful beach and all the structure, and then began slinging the LC. Conditions were seemingly perfect. Flat waves, no wind, and crystal clear water. Water temp was about 65-66. High tide was about 6ft at 8:30am. A few minutes in, we realized that it was almost impossible to retrieve the LC back without getting kelp and grass all over it, so we decided to switch it up and drop shot.
After a few cast into an area that seems to have a ton of structure, I get a nice hit and my rod gets the good old bend. I see the mystery fish surface from afar and I knew instantly that it was a halibut. It didn’t take me too long to bring it in, but once it came close, it’s true muscles began to shine and it started swimming around left and right. Judging by the size, I knew it was a legal. Daniel came running over to give me the traditional high-five and quickly pulled the halibut up to dry land. I quickly measured it, took a few pics, and then released it hoping that I will get him back when he is above 30inch. He was 22.5 INCHES. My fourth and hopefully not last legal of this year!!
We went to two AOs that day and that was the only hookup for me all day with a bunch of hit-and-misses, but it was totally worth it.

While I was fishing a very rocky area, my LC got stuck about 15-20yd out and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to jerk it out. It was my new Sexy Aji 110 that I won from the casting competition so I knew I wasn’t going to let him go that easily. This wasn't the first time my LC got stuck way out. I decided to strip down to my bare bottoms and attempt to rescue my baby. I got about shin high into the water, stood there for less than a minute and ran back out because my feet couldn’t handle the ice cold water. Daniel looked at me and told me to forget about it “its only 20 bucks!” I replied, “No man, it’s a special LC from HG4!” He ended up leaving me and continued fishing. I sat on a rock for 10 minutes contemplating whether I should part ways with my LC, then I finally decided! This LC is special! I jumped up and started heading out toward the cold rocky ocean, walking over a ton of mussels and into random trenches. I ended up getting smacked by a few waves neck-high, BUT I DID IT! I got my baby back! I know this LC will pay me back someday. I just know it.
