What lures for smallmouth?

A friend has repeatedly invited me to fish at a large private lake that has numerous small mouth. I chase trout and need some help with small mouth bass. (Or largemouth for that matter.) I thought I posted this question before but doing a complete search, cannot find mpost.

Questions:
1. I like ultralight spin rigs. Can I get away with 4 lbs fluoro? Or do I need at least 6 lbs test?

2. What lures should I use? For trout, I fish minijigs. What about small mouth? I'd like whatever is more likely to be very productive as we search the waters.

I ask because he does not fish but has a boat that he will use to take me around the lake.

I have never targeted smallies before, but believe that tubes are a good choice to go with. As far as line, I think 4lb is to light. I would go with 8lb test, but that's me. It also depends on structure u are fishing around as well.
