Fall is probably my favorite time fishing the Eastern Sierra's. You've got the gorgeous fall colors and the chance of catching a fish of a lifetime. POM and I headed up 395 in search of some monster's before Halloween and we weren't dissapointed.
Fished several spots along the Owens and got into some pretty good brown fishing... In fact, I caught my personal best 25-26 inch brown 5-6lbs on my go to lure (panther martin)... This fish was a beast, peeling drag and taking me down river... oh what a feeling!!! The pic almost makes the brown look like a cuttie due to its milky coloration but you should be able to see some of the red spots. I also got into a 16-17 incher along with some smaller models mixed in.
Saturday we headed further north fishing the Upper O, June Loop, and the East Walker. POM got into a cpl 14-16 inch brownies with some bows mixed in. There was a 12.4 lb brown caught in the loop that same day and boy was it gorgeous. The East Walker was crowded but managed to catch a few bows and browns in the 12-14 inch range. We did see a 3-4 lbr landed.
Sunday we made the hike for some monster brookies and boy were we not dissapointed. We had great action most of the morning on 1.5-3lb brookies that were drag screamers. Met a great fly-fisherman Scott that was absolutely slaying it with precision casts on his home tied flies.
Monday we made our way back down 395 fishing our spots along the Owens and tributaries. I got into another beautiful brown in the 18-19 inch range. POM had some brute bows break him off on more than one occasion.
Once again another great time in the Eastern Sierra's slaying some Monster's... Still waiting for that DD though!!!! One day.... Tight Lines and Full Tails!!!!
