Pretty convincing work to me. I magnified the pixelation on the shirt and the left knee. Tough to tell.

Color of the fish looks odd, left knee looks odd, left hand looks disporportionate out infront of the chair compared to how far behind the chair BassRon looks.

2 posts from BassRon, uber agressive thumbs up from the lifeguard looks setup, I am not sure about that position in the goon that the mountain would be reflecting in the sunglasses. Right above the tip of the tail there is a weird straight line in the waves, magnified it looks like something was removed from the pic

I'm sure w/o doubt stripers have been put in there by anglers through the years but they will never thrive and reproduce due to the lakes conditions..

I fished for years there and this is the 1st near confirmed event that i've heard of or seen
(I say that cause I can personally neither confirm or deny the catch as I didn’t see it myself- but I’ve heard it’s legit from a couple peeps- just very out of the norm)

looks like an odd photo cuz he's holding it out at full arms length....photo doesn't look fake to me, just the image of the fish is far from the body...basically the fish is more in the foreground than what would be the optimum angle...thats what's causing the confusion

this is fact and been disputed by those not in the know for years....in order to thrive the stripers need either :

1.Current to lay their eggs (broadcast spawners)
2.Deep water to lay their eggs so they remain adrift (if they reach bottom they will silt and die-not hatch)

Through the years I'm sure some fertilized eggs made it through the turbines but once they hatch the LMB prey on them and as they are not in great #'s they are destined to fail in the reproduction cycles...it's probably the only time when the LMB actually have the upper hand due to enviroment....


Obviously theres been those who have released some stripers there...no doubt...if this in a bonafied catch that is probably the case here...

I still stand by a photoshop.

While I see it as an impossibility that stripers have never or do now live in the goon be it by human transplant or fertilized egg/fry taking the ride down the spillway.

I find it impossible to believe that the migration of the California stripers from the east coast via oak barrel on a train dumped into the san juaqiun river, migrating to the delta only to be sucked up into the aqueduct, through many pumping plants into quail lake, down to Pyramid, through pipes to elderberry, then through the powerplant into Castaic and they somehow magically stop at the Castaic dam and don't find a way into the goon... IMPOSSIBLE they "just stop"

As Gary says, conditions at the Goon are poor at best for a striper, but I believe the healthiest of stripers could survive.

I give you Lake Buena Vist here in Bakersfield. Used to have a large striper population, now a few a year caught. Lake temps run way hotter than the goon, a deep part of the lake is 6 ft.

Trailblazer caught a 30 lber out of it. I personally know of 4 other big fish caught in it..

I fully believe a striper or few could live by whatever means of transplant you choose.

Having said all of that, an over exuberant lifeguard, funny colors on the fish, odd looking left knee and left hand as I mentioned on top of BassRons first post has me finding it difficult to buy.

So call me hater if ya want, doesn't solve anything

I say Photoshop. If you look at the contrast of the fisherman and the contrast of the water, there is a slight difference and also a hard edge. Also the crop work around the tail and fins of the striper...not too clean. Just my two cents from a professional designer who knows a thing or two about Photoshop. But don't let this stop you from chasing stripers in the lagoon LOL!

Ok I took a photography class in my undergrad studies and know for a fact that this is photoshopped for several reasons…

1. his knuckles of his left hand are behind the fish….

2. based on the position of his right hand his thumb is either sticking into it's mouth through the side or he can stretch his thumb around the fish's mouth

3. the shadow on his shirt doesn't match the shadow of the fish

4. they didn't adjust the contrast of the fish because the fish is lit up so bright it's ridiculous compared to everything else and the lighting on the fish is wrong based on where the sun is reflecting off the dude's forehead (and you can actually see it in his glasses)

5. the tail is slightly pixelated and whoever did the crop job did a horrible job on the tail because you can see odd spots that don't match the color of the tail or water

it was a pretty good attempt but a failed one nonetheless.

however, I do agree with a lot of people that I'm sure their are some striper in that lagoon from people introducing it in to the water or for some other reason… there may not be a lot of them or any big ones but there is probably at least one in there somewhere

Why dont they stock the lower lagoon anymore ??

A whole nutha’ issue altogether but it’s due to the thought that there is a potential thread to the steelhead spawn since the outflow of the lagoon could potentially meet the ocean…causing a potential breeding of stocked trout with the steelhead..


Proposterous on too many levels to list….some pencil pushers theories put into law…

It’s nothing short of a joke but I wouldn’t count on any stocking for quite some time if ever…


They even stopped stocking the upper for quite a while when that all began…they thought the trout would make it from the upper…to the goon and then the ocean…

FAIL…

It’s a joke but not easy to lobby the legislation to change it…

CASTAIC: The striper bite has been at the buoy line and in the back of the Ski Arm with the best bite early in the morning with boiling the whole time. This action has spread out with fish also now showing at the west and main ramps. Kastmasters and Flukes have been the best baits as the stripers chop up the shad. The largemouth have also been good in Fire Break Cove, Utopia Cove, and the Fish Arm morning and even on shad-like reaction baits. There is also a fair catfish bite on cut baits in deeper water, but other species have been slowing, with even the bluegill starting to back off in the cooling water. In the lower lake, there is a pretty good bluegill bite off the lagoon’s fishing pier on small jigs, wax worms and meal worms. Come on folks, let's all just try to get along. Are the waters we are fishing in that slow that we make a big deal of whether bass ron catches a striper at the lagoon? Who cares where he caught it and just congratulate him. It is a nice fish despite where it was caught. As for me I am having a hell of a time catching my first striper for the year. The few times that I have gone fishing the stripers where out of reach from shore.

We have a lot of knowledgeable people here who has caught a lot of nice size pigs. I respect them all and really appreciate their reports and tips. We should get back to that. No need to question a person's integrity. I believe the law states that a person is innocent until proven guilty.

So folks lets get back to going after those stripeys and sharing your tips and reports. Go back to what you guys like to do and that is catch big fish. As for me I will try to hook up on my first striper for the year. Hahahahahahahaha. I don't really care if I catch it on a pond, creek, ocean, aqueduct, lagoon, upper and etc. because beggars can't be choosers.

Why would anybody think that there are not any Stripers in the lagoon? I'm old school and used to fish it through the 1980s. There was talk even way back then about Stripers seen or caught from in there. There's a lake just up over the dam that now has thousands and thousands of them in it. Seems logical that it is more likely than ever that some of those are in the lagoon also.

One this matter, they are also in Lake Perris. A friend of mine who is a well known team tourney regular has caught a few.

yea, i was also gonna say something like this. I don't doubt it could happen. and i normally don't doubt a persons catch on any of the fishing forums i go on. But this picture seemed very fake from the beginning. and even the second pic he posted that was supposed to be "proof". had the flaw of the guy still with his thumb up. And even if it was on multi frame or whatever, he still would have had to stand up pretty fast. and the guy shows no movement at all in the second pic. This subject has been gone over many times. It is not impossible that someone let one go into the Lagoon and you were lucky to catch it before it died. Good luck luck to all of those going to the Lagoon baited up and rigged for striper. My advice is don't waste your time and bait in the Lagoon if you want to catch Jailbirds.

I want to thank troutonly aka Bob for being the only person who posted good fishing report under the lake castaic forum. I fish castaic twice this year and love this lake. It would be nice to see some encouraging fishing report instead of this got dang thread.

Been apart of this site since 2004 but in recent years i've watched this site go downhill soooooo fast. It's posts like this one that show the maturity levels of grown men. Some stuff is funny, but watching grown men calling each other out via the web or just talking mad sh*t is sad to see. I used to be a regular poster and used to post very detailed reports for everyone and used to take random people out and show them how to get on fish. Also used to help put together small events to bring people from the site together to fish as a group of friends. But all that is lost to me now because of the lame people on this site that do nothing but bicker and fight with each other. This is a hobby we do for fun, and relaxation. I've made some very close friends from this site, even was a groomsman for a guys wedding who i met by taking him to the lagoon and putting him on his first lagoon bass. Now when the name fnn is brought up around us OG fnn'ers we get a bad taste in our mouth. I'm sure there are still good guys and gals on this site but it's difficult to want to get to know them when you have to weed through drama posts all the time.

To adriiiian, i'm already off this site. Been off this site before Dana passed away. I come on once in a blue moon to see if things have changed or to see if any of my old fishing pals have done some reports. It's a shame every time i come on here i see drama like this post. No reason to lurk, because it seems like none of you fish the lagoon anyway. So again i say to you drama loving internet fishermen, get the sand out of your v-jays and get out and fish. I know that's what i'll be doing on wednesday night. Maybe i'll catch a striper on the lagoon haha

Yeah and I respect that but everyone is different. There's all type of people on fnn and everyone's opinion should be welcome whether it's good or bad. I fish the goon every once in a while. Taking Ray's side on this issue the drama on this site is absolutely ridiculous. With the exception of the guides... nobody here is a professional angler and especially not a pro and not good enough to be a pro so just shut up and fish because it's a hobby we all enjoy.

Hi Ray, You shouldn't let a few nit pickers get you down. I don't FW fish much but enjoy reading it. Drama yah there is drama, even on the SW boards, big deal.

I think FNN is a great site and have met some great friends here too.
Used to be on AC site which was good back in the day. That site has slowed to a crawl.
The other site gets 1 - 2 sw surf reports a month. FNN gets 20+ a month.
The SWAT crew puts up some great reports.

If someone starts nit pikin a report just call them on it.
Calling someone out is better than running or sitting on your hands.
You have put up some great reports and people now miss them.
