Catching bluegill in Mesquite Bay North for bait later that night

8.6 pound channel cat that took a small bluegill at Mesquite Bay North.

My parents planned to come out and my dad wanted to do some cat fishing. I went out and caught 2 buckets of bluegill, re spooled all my abu's, and we sat out there all night without a bite. The next day we took the boat out and ended up in the channel waiting for my wife to get off work so she could come down and meet us. I had 2 medium action spinning rigs on the boat and some anchovies so I figured I would through them out. Now let me set the scene: High noon, lots of boat traffic, and my stereo on the boat blasting. The first fish hit and almost took my pole in with it. I didn't have it anchored and it had a circle hook on so I knew he was on there. Ended up being a channel cat just shy of 10 pounds. I guess this really didn't surprise me much cause I have seen numerous cats cruising through the channel, even on busy weekends. The next fish surprised me. I knew it wasn't a catfish from the start cause it was running fast from side to side. Got it in and it ended up being a lineside at 7 pounds. We also dropped another 5 pound cat before we could get a fish and lost one on the hook set.

Figured the channel was hot and spent 3 more days fishing in it without any fish to be seen. Then I went at noon again the other day and my son reeled in a few more channel cats..
