I am looking to replace the impeller on the outboard for my boat and need some help. It's a 1973 Johnson Outboard but I don't have a manual to figure out which bolts to remove to get the lower unit off. I have the new impeller just need a hand getting the lower unit off and changing out the part. Anyone have any experience with this that can provide some tips?

Thanks

It's a 65 hp. I found a youtube for it but am not the most mechanically inclined.

It should be pretty easy dropping the lower unit, and replacing the impeller. The part most people have trouble with is getting the lower to fit back in. Some manuals suggest leaving the motor in gear when you remove the lower, others suggest neutral is better. I have an early 80's merc 80hp, and found it is easier to leave it in neutral. When putting the lower back, make sure everything is lined up properly. The drive shaft may not want to fit into place. You may have to either jiggle the flywheel a little, or manually rotate the drive shaft little by little until everything fits into place.

YouTube is a great place to look. I would look at every video that shows how to replace an impeller.

I talked to him at the trout opener. He did the impeller and some fuel lines with a buddy. Working good.

Good news, it would be nice of him to post up the results and encourage more anglers to save a couple hundy by doing it themselves

Probably went to iboats you will get a lot of good help there for almost any boat type problems.
