Ya, I heard they merged the Dept of Fish & Game with the Highway Patrol. It's now going to be called the "Department of Fish and Chips". :Envious:

Yup "game" means dead animals, we'd hate to associate a government departement that is responsible for fishing and hunting management with actual fishing and hunting. They didn't have to change fish because it's kind of generic. Oh and this also allows them to utilize more funds within the department even more than they already do for the feel good tree hugging stuff they really want to spend it on.

This state is going straight into the pooper and there really is nothing we can do about it, the liberals are killing or have already killed this state and without a balance (which isn't going to happen, thanks No Cal and LA!) we are screwed.

They only did that because "Department of Sea Kittens and Cute Lil' Furry-friends" wouldn't fit on the patch.

Yup, good old Jerry Brown want's to increase our taxes yet signs imprudent legislation like this. Dept. of Fish and Game (oops -Wildlife) spokesman Mike Taugher projects "the name change will cost more than the legislature's upper estimate of $300,000."
Once again, expect license fees to increase.

Let's all just not buy a license and fish without one until they get their #$%^ together.

That ticket can run up to $1000 bucks. Tell you what I WILL do though. When I get my new license, the first thing I'm doing is crossing out "Wildlife" and writing "Game" in there. I will also continue to call them DFG, just on principle. Everybody else should do the same, to remind them of their obligation to us outdoorsmen.

I oppose the renaming of the DFG. It serves no meaningful purpose, and appears to be nothing more than a Democratic assemblyman taking yet another shot at responsible hunters and anglers in California.

Anthony Portantino (D-La Caņada Flintridge) is the author of AB 2283. Give him a call. Hell, give him several calls.

Seems he had another bill which you all should have been aware of:

Governor Signs Portantino’s Open Carry-Long Gun Bill - AB 1527

Sacramento – Governor Jerry Brown today signed Assemblymember Anthony Portantino’s groundbreaking legislation banning the open carry of rifles and shotguns in California’s cities.

It's too late for AB 1527. It's not too late for AB 2283.

Anybody in the NRA or active in the hunting community has been well aware of AB 1527 for awhile. Most of us did indeed send letters, calls, and emails, but to no avail. The governor doesn't read that crap anyway. This state does whatever it wants.

This is the bit that concerns me:

"Baseline conditions shall be determined by the department, in consultation with the applicant, and shall be based on the best available science and objective scientific methodologies. For purposes of establishing baseline conditions, a qualified person that is not employed by the department may conduct habitat surveys, if that person has appropriate species expertise and has been approved by the department."

I'll be drafting my letter this evening... now where would be a good site to copy supporting text from? ;)

I'm sure PETA, Greenpeace, The Sierra Club, and the Humane Society are working on theirs right now too.

This is just the one of the steps in the "remove all fishing and hunting from California" conquest.
