Top secret creek. Hooked a massive wild rainbow trout on an artificial lure. Creek isn't stocked, nor has it been for many years. This is my largest wild trout from a mountain stream so far!

And no, not letting the secret out on the location of this bad boy! He really took me on a run on my 2lb mono and ultralite rod/reel, definitely a memory-maker!

Nice trout, definitely not a steelhead or native though.

Nicely done! There are some big fish in some of the smaller creeks. Just got to work to find them.

Do you think it was stocked? Creek hasn't been stocked in years...

Nah sorry by not native I meant not native to the area like a steelhead or Golden trout is in Cali.

It's definitely a wild reproducing/naturalized rainbow though, if the creek hasn't been stocked in years like you said. It's interesting that it hasn't got that pattern that many wild rainbows in SoCal get after a couple generations it seems.

Good sized and good looking fish for a creek in Berdoo man, well done.

Congrats on the trout CAD. Another angle: Some of the schools participate in the "Trout in the Classroom" projects where they raise fingerling trout from eggs and then release them. Most don't survive but a few do.

I used catch lots of big fish in small streams up in Utah, the trick is walking up stream and sling shooting your fly without spooking them. My biggest was a 3lb bow in a cold stream twice the width of a bedroom door. Nice job.

It was the only one I hooked on that trip either; hope these spawn successfully and fill the creek up....definitely a female, very pale fish compared to others
