Went out to the HB Pier this afternoon. We were fishing with cut squid. The water was really choppy and the wind was blowing pretty hard. I caught a small mac in the first 20 minutes there then a couple hours went by untill I got this ray

Ive caught other types of Ray's before but I am not sure what this one is called. after that we called it a night.

Late report

I also Fished the pier on the night of the 22nd and caught my first and second Guitar fish

and then I caught a small leo

and a short while after that I hooked a good size bat ray but he wraped himself around a piller and the line snaped. Both times to the pier my gf was skunked. The fishing has been slow. All fish caught on cut squid and all fish were released.

I think that your unidentified ray is a "Butterfly Ray".

Nice fish. Yep that is indeed a california butterfly ray. I've never caught one of those before.

the leo put up a nice little fight but ive caught some bigger ones that really fight hard fun fish to catch. Are Butterfly rays common around HB?

From time to time, i keep large butterfly rays. They are great for tacos!
