Well, I decided to hit the surf once again. I don't often fish the surf, (usually on the jetti with my cousins)at this area but from what I've read on here and from BSP; http://fishingnetwork.net/forum4/showthread.php?41562-Intro-So-you-want-to-catch-halibut-from-the-surf it was helpful. Good read and very informative. Thanks BSP.
Anywho, I got there around 4:40am only to find out I can't park. Signs all over the place saying, "No parking 10pm - 6am...Beach and Jetti Closed 10pm - 1 hour prior to sunrise" Something like that I don't recall it exactly. So I decided to drive back to jacks and grab some breakfast. Waited there till around 5:30, I figured sunrise is around 6:25 or so, got there only to see a few others fishing the surf already. I'm saying to myself, where the heck did they parked? Oh well, on to fishing. That morning started off bad but ending well. Five cast into it, I loose my LC to my own stupidity. Note to self; never have a second rod behind you when casting. I snagged my second rod and off it went into the ocean blue. I can hear Borat in the background "Iz great success!". Decided to just fish for YFC instead but to my surprise there were plenty of corbinas. I see them swimming along the waves chasing something. I'm not certain if they snack on bait fish or not so I threw in artificial worms by Gulp. Nothing for 30 mins, then a little nibble. Set the hook and got it up on shore. I was hoping for a corbina, but got this little guy instead: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m201/Autobotz8/IMG_6482.jpg
Didn't bother measuring it as I knew it wasn't legal, so off it went. About 5 mins later, I get this guy: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m201/Autobotz8/IMG_6483.jpg yet another small one. As I was removing the hook, he decide to give me a gift: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m201/Autobotz8/IMG_6484.jpg
30 mins afterward I get a strong hit, set the hook only to bring up a string ray, YAY!!!.
Sun beatin down on me so I'm telling myself 5 more cast and thats it. First, second, third, fourth cast then bam I'm on something good. Let's hope it's not a ray/skate/guitar fish. 5 mins into the fighting I see what appears to be a good size flatty. Got it up on the shore only to have it break off as a big wave crashes on to it. Didn't even bother with the fifth cast. I decided to head towards the other side of the jetti. Stop by an overpass near the marina, spent about an hr or so there and spotted some big white sea bass swimming there. Wish I took a picture of that. There was a school of them chasing bait fish. Here's a pic of the location: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m201/Autobotz8/IMG_6485.jpg Ended my day there...
