View Full Version : Trophy Size Reds

I have not posted a report in a long time. I have been fishing 2-3 times a week, riding my bike in between those days and exploring different parts of Baja by plane and car every month. Just barely working to cover expenses for the fishing trips and bills. Saving up very little, but I dont need all that money anyways.

I have had plenty of offshore action this summer so I decided to mark the end of summer with some codding. It was not the original plan, but it was epic rockfishing. 10-12LB reds and some nice size lings for a few hours after the morning offshore trip was a semi-bust down in Baja. I like codding pictures for you to enjoy:

I took Dennis down on this Baja trip. The size of the reds down here were ridiculous. Every drift we hooked fish. They snapped our 35lb test gangions and took drag.

Here I am with freshly caught vermillion. The pictures do not do them just.

We caught some big lings too.

The offshore produced dink yellows. We missed the epic offshore action by a week. There is always next month.

This picture pretty much sums up my whole summer.

See you all next time. Hope your summer was as good as mines.

Nice Magnum Reds!!! I remember the trips to San Miguel Island on the Condor. Before the depth restrictions/Cow Cod closures, we would occassionally stop at a spot Capt Ron called the "Deep Hole" on the way back. It was a huge pinnacle that topped out at about 425'. Everything on that spot was gynormous. On one drop, I got two 12 pound Reds and the bottom hook of my 3 hook gangion was straightened out like a nail. Memories...
