I am going on a 3/4 day trip out of san diego in 2 weeks. What equipment should I bring? I have a daiwa sealine but I need a rod to go with it. any suggestions?? i think the targeted species will be bonito, barracutta, halibut, maybe some small tuna.

MH action rod from 15-20lb. I use all braid backing and flouro leader. For a 3/4 trip I would go with something like 30lb braid with a 15lb flouro on one setup and 20lb flouro on the other. Probably with 3/4 day boats is by the time you get to the paddies you only have about 2-3 hours to fish them and then pull out. If you have some good heavy bass gear that will work fine as you'll probably hit dodo and YT most of the time.

LGHT,
You're thinking light, as in your nic.
I'd go with 50lb braid and use 20 - 30 lb fluoro leaders, with MH action rods to match the line.
I did a 3/4 day trip last week and scored 3 yellows and 2 dorados all with that gear (one an 8' jig stick) and a size 2 hook for anchovies and a 1/0 size hook for 'dines.
And for fun take along a freshwater bass rod and reel with 12 lb mono.
My 2 cents
Have fun Southpaw ~

I normally use my Avet mxj raptor with 65lb spectre and 30lb floro paired with shimano terez rail rod or my Avet jx with 50lb spectre and 40lb floro on my 9ft phenix 909H and they seem to handle just about anything.

I took my Calcutta 400te and my XXH carrotstick gold as my light setup on an overnight on the New Lo-An down here in San Diego. Highlight of the trip was hooking a 30lb tuna on it. Fought it for 45 min before it spit the hook. may not have got the fish, but big fish on light gear is always fun. I already had fish in my bag, so I just wanted to have fun.
