Hey guys, I have a question. When does it usually become too cold to fish and camp in the Mammoth lakes area? I know the season ends Nov 15th, but can you usually still fish then? I was thinking of doing several trips with what remains of the season and tent camping, but I've never been there later than mid October. Also, can anyone recommend other areas in California to trout fish during the winter months? I don't really enjoy fishing the stocked trout at the so. cal lakes.

Thanks a bunch.

To a REAL fisherman it is never too cold. The Owens river is open all year to trout fishing and is epic during the winter months. The upper Owens above Lake Crowley has large rainbows that have come up from Lake Crowley in the winter. The lower Owens when the flow is below 200 ft is also great. The upper from a snowmobile or the lower in a drift boat is my favorite fishing time from December to March. Try it and you will be hooked, just layer up the clothes and catch them lunkers.
