Lobster laws..

I know spiny lobster season begins in October. If a legal size lobster is caught on a fishing line/pole by accident rather than via hooping or a trap does that somehow sidestep the law? Just asking because I went out on a certain boat with a certain well-known fishing tour company last week and saw a deckhand reel in a *very* nice-sized spiny lobster that had gone after his sardine fillet bait and hooked itself. He kept it and the captain/other deckhands seemed fine with that. Was it fine by DFG standard? Also saw a good number of short sculpin and a very short sandbass go into the bags, but that's another story.

The 2nd larger lobster was put in the bait tank...maybe they released it in the harbor but I never saw them do it and I was by the bait tank the whole time until we docked. I suppose a report to DFG is in order. I hate to be a snitch, but it seems warranted this time around.

Keeping a not in season illegal caught lobster for even a minute is still a violation. I would have taken picks and reported them. Clearly the boat has no regards to the law and REAL fisherman would have never done that.
