hare's ear. reverse hackle, flies used
0800 hrs Started out at Eisenhower Park located off the 55 Freeway. Walked from the northern parking lot to check out the man made stream they have built which supplies the small lake downstream. Sun was hot and there was plenty of top water splashing by feeding LMB small ones though. I worked the lake around the shore and could not get any bites but some followers using my dark hare’s ear. Talked to some locals there and they steered me to the shade. Bite was on was I dialed in the shady areas and fished near to far. These fish were spooky but with my 30 foot casts I kept my distance. Bites were all soft too. I managed to get about 15 fish … all Palm sized bluegills.

1030 hrs My next destination was TRI CITY PARK. I learned my lesson and went right to a shaded area and first cast had a small bluegill. I had changed my fly to a TENKARA reverse hackle with a red body #16. I caught more than 10 fish in that shaded area and worked around the lake fishing all shady spots. This lake produced some of the smallest bluegills I have ever caught on the fly. Moved to a sandy area very shallow and no shade. Fish were nesting in some nice crater shaped nests and very aggressive to my fly lurking above. Caught some nice colored males. After 2 hours here I decided to pack it in and head for destination #3

1320 hrs I arrived in the secluded LAGUNA LAKE PARK. Wind conditions were not ideal but I fished the lake down wind first. Immediately got into some shoreline fish nesting. All the fish were very small (palm sized). Some guy was to my left pulling in a nice size Catfish. There are circulators here and I focused my casts to them and let the current take my fly to the fish. This reminded me of stream fishing with this nice current. I was letting the fly get carried down stream and pulling slowly back up stream and managed to get numerous hook ups. After walking completely around the lake and fishing at each of the circulators I called it a day. 1530 hrs
