i fished the 15 freeway spot in hesperia, on the upstream side of the freeway. i showed up at around 8:40, and drooped a night crawler on the outside of a bend. got hit bout five minutes later, nice 3-4lb channel catfish, circle hook got him in the gills somehow, never seen that before. so i brought him home after it got to hot. thanks too all the people who gave me tips on the duct, beat the skunk on my first trip!

good job, bends in the duct are slay spots for cats.

Nice catch. Judging by the color it looks like it came from very dirty water. Soak it in milk over night and it will get rid of that dirty taste an smell.

If i may ask, What rig where you using to keep the bait in one spot

i was using a big 1oz sliding sinker with a short 14in leader, just like people use for trout only with 8lb test . you don't want the bait in the middle. ive fished rivers a million times its what i usually do. the only difference between the aqueduct and a river is the duct has no cover on the bottom, or at least cover is rare (there are submerged cars and trees and what not but who knows where they are). so you need to find a spot that has benefits to a fish like a bend in the duct or a bridge pylon or shade. keep in mind that the water is moving so your bait's scent is carried down stream, as long as your bait is not visible to you (i suggest taking a walk down to where your bait is and seeing if you can eyeball it) then its deep enough. cats will sniff it out, they just have to be there (no promises there thats why you should mover around a lot or drift fish) so fighting and trying to keep it on the deep in the channel doesn't matter... i know im new to duct fishing but this has been what worked for me on two of my three trips to the duct as well as my friend's duct visits. dont limit yourself to the sliding sinker, but i use it because it gathers less salad than the pyramid sinkers.

PS the hesperia duct is so full of salad that you couldn't buy a fish with a million dollars as of 8/17. fly lining doesn't even fix it.
