August 2 - 4 trip to Mammoth lakes area

Fished Mammoth creek, Lake Mary, and Owens river. Had a large group of family who had never fished or didn't fish very often. My best fish were on Mammoth Creek either early in AM or late afternoon. Pulled out a couple of nice 14"-15" 2 pounder rainbows just south of the bridge by Old Mammoth rd at around 3 in the afternoon on Saturday. Single salmon egg on 2 lb line. Our group only managed a few fish out of Lake Mary. Best bet was the Owens river on Friday late morning into afternoon. Just North of the fishing monument. Our group managed to land 13 fish on mostly power bait. I caught one on an orange lip ripper worm.

Sounds like a nice family outing, I look forward on our annual trip up there, we normally get up at the june loop area later part of september, thanks for the report.
