With summer in full swing, I'm wondering which one is more preferable to stripers. I have never caught stripers on lures, but I have had luck on baits. Are there certain times to use lures?

Depends. in summer i would go with bait. but the smaller ones might go after lures more than big one.

Of course you can catch Striper on lures in the summer.......just fish deeper!!! They like the cooler water! over cast or cloudy mornings they might come up but after that fish 40 feet and below

The trick with summer stripey fishing is finding fish that are chasing bait. If you can do that you can catch fish on lures. Everyone has thie favorites. Topwaters like Zara Spook and Punkers, to flukes and scroungers and my fave the jerkbait. When stripers are on the hunt they will take almost anything fishy. If you aren't seeing them on the fish finder then trolling deeper water is gonna be the next call.

Real men throw Lunker Punkers and Triple Trout until their biceps explode.
