My wonderful wife treated me to a little Mammoth trip for my birthday. Was worried about the forecast for thunderstorms and rain but, it worked out in our favor. Temps have been in the low 80s putting a damper on the bite lately according to the reports I read so the clouds and little bit of rain was a relief.
Basically, while we were fishing, it would sprinkle for about five minutes, be bright and sunny for 20 minutes, sprinkle again for five minutes and so forth. Once we got bored with that, it actually hailed on us for about five minutes! However, we stood our ground because the fish were biting! Almost caught out limits on inflated crawlers again at Lake Mary.
Even with the storm front, the temps were still in the 70s to low 80s most of the time. Fortunately, winds weren't a problem.

Today, we went to our usual favorite spot just below the campgrounds at Lake Mary and the bite was hot. Despite short periods of rain and sometimes hail, we stuck around because we kept getting hits.

I'm wearing sunglasses it because it was sunny five minutes before! Note, where I'm standing. A month ago we fished in this exact spot and where I'm standing was underwater! The shoreline has receded about fifteen feet since then. Wonder how more shoreline will be exposed when we return in October.

Nothing huge but, they were pretty meaty and fun to catch. Made us forget about the rain! Another nice thing about the rain was that it freed up a lot fishing spots and kept most of the boaters off the lake. Another nice little trip for the books.
