Got out to Legg this morning with my fly rod and my recently purchased EHC #14 brown. Been fishing the poor man session @ pudd and have been getting 5-6 fish an hour, but all of the smaller variety.

Got to the water around 6:15 and my first spot had this:

It really stank and there was a bunch of flies so I decided to keep moving. Sight fishing around the lake again and I stopped anywhere I saw fish. First fish of the day was a nice red ear.

Same spot fish #2:

Nothing else here. A lot of fish defending beds and not really interested in feeding. Enjoyed seeing all the little shells and rocks they collected and how fierce they were! Non stop defense. Even saw some couples mating. Next few were all near a channel and then got a back to back by the drain.

It was about 8 now and starting to heat up. Glare made it hard to see and the fish didn't seem to be biting so I started back tracking. Caught a couple more small gills but couldn't take pics because I lost my pliers, AGAIN! I eventually found it while walking back to the parking lot. Lucky me. On my way back, it seemed like there were hundreds of flies on that dead cat, and ate a good chuck of it. Pretty gross. Missed a couple bites by the water fall and called it a day. Lots of city workers were raking the water around me being annoying. Left around 9:15 to come home to some daddy daughter time.

Thanks for reading. Good day!

Nice report and great pics white belt. I fished the Legg a few days this week with some mixed results. It was good early in the week, averaged around 15/20 fish for the few hours I was there and I did catch probably my biggest redear/bluegill from Legg lake on Tuesday near the drain (I'm pretty sure the same area you spoke about) it was probably 10"/11" and had to be about a pound or so. I went on Thursday though and it was SLOOOW. Cool to see the fly rod is producing for you.

Soooooo, are you hooked on fly fishing now?? Good action on the fly! Always like to hear how others did with learning a new style of fishing. Panfish are great for practice, after you've learned how to catch small fish with the fly rod, then the trout fishing comes easier. Next, you'll be ready to try Tenkara, ha,,ha...

Cool report, yeah I too saw alot of dead cats floating from the last overnite fishing event they had there, glad to see you caught some fish though,I've seen alot of gills under the trees in the shade also in the north lake, usually those people you see raking and cleaning are the community service peeps who have to do that for drunk driving ect...the deputies drive them around in white vans drop them off and let them clean and keep the park clean. Some are cool some are.....

I think I'm getting to that point... Once I start tying flies you know I'm a full blown addict haha I just enjoy being able to get out on the lake with just a rod, a couple flies and pliers. Packing light and spending less time re-tying. Since I only get to fish a few hours at a time now its ideal. Tenkara hahaha I wish! Babies are expensive :'( haha

Thanks for reading FQ!

I'm not sure the tenkara are so expensive. Vivid Fly turned me on to an online store called uxcell.com that sellx tons of asian fishing tackle including some really really cheap poles that could be used for tenkara. They are not the high end models for sure, but they are not expensive either. I've bought a couple of things from them I really love, and their customer service is excellent, shipping is fast and reasonable, and delivery times are great for a Chinese store. In fact I am expecting an approximately 10' tenkara type rod I bought for $5.60. I have doubts it will do what I want it to, but at prices like that I can gamble. They are at :
http://www.uxcell.com. I already own a graphite tenkara type rod I got on ebay I got along with two other carp hera type rods for $15 - $20 dollars, but that was just luck. I found it searching for "korean style fishing pole."

Good Luck
