It's about time that I posted instead of lurking, LOL. I packed the tube into Chamise from Vist Pt and got to fishing at 4:30pm. The weather was cloudy with a storm possibly in the making, a perfect striper day. The summer crowd was in full swing (no shocker) with the jet skis and wake boats motoring about. Lucky for me everyone on the water was cool and kept their distance although I do need to get a flag. I worked the cove for awhile along the weedline and then decided to kick out just short of open water. No love for over an hour and then the bite started on the 8-10" micros. I had plenty of short bites and missed strikes with fish caught in-between. It was getting dark, the crowd was gone and I started my way back. I spotted a great blue heron hunting for silversides. Damn, I thought if only I had the patience of that bird! This time I trolled into deeper territory stripping off line until I was almost to my backing. I wound up with 2 schoolies in the 18" range and a farm by the time I got to shore. I wanted to stay longer but I knew that I had bettter get home and keep the wife happy. Rod-9wt-yes overkill but you never know with striper. Line-350grain shooting head integrated to an intermediate. Flies-sz 4 lt green over white, sz 3/0 rainbow over white. Note-fish caught in the 15 to approx 50ft range. Sorry, no pics camera is broken. I need to tie up some black streamers for night time!! Fish on.

Big black wooly buggers with a red head are a great pattern at the Wood for both bigass stripers, LMB's, trout, bluegill etc. but you are on to it I'm sure.

Tonight there were small boils going off in the Horn, but I mean small 8" model stripers.

The Blue Herron's are funny they will fish with you, it's like they watch you. Also had a friendly Bob tonight that had no fear of me, love the wildlife out there.

Thanks for the reply--I agree wholeheartedly that the black bugger is deadly up there. I tied some up on a sz 2 mustad streamer hook and stuck some red eyes on them--now on to tying up some in 2/0 to 3/0 in the 6" range. I did well on that pattern for lmb and actually caught an incidental kitty in the 5lb range on one. I observed the same scenario with the 8 inchers slurping the surface and hopefully this pattern will continue with the larger units--we need a consistent topwater bite!! Those silverwood bobcats are almost tame, I guess from no-one bothering them. The silversides are super thick this year and I'm predicting an awesome striper fall bite. Now on to get that camera fixed so I can actually upload some photos in the future.

They were busting the surface again tonight, all you can eat 8" buffet if you were in the right spot, we weren't but still picked up a couple I missed a few on the top.

No buckets full but it's only a matter of time....
