Fished for an hour with a friend in Newport harbor after a surf check. Tide was starting to make its way out after a nice high....we were both using some crack, I got skunked, my friend ended up with a halibut and an aquarium sized spottie.
Can u upload photos straight from an iPhone into a thread???
Headed out to the surf this evening for the grunion run, anyone else going?

id like to but I dont feel like taking the bus today. too damn hot.
u sure theres gonna be grunion run? most of the time i go they never show

Grunion get down at night. And last time there was a predicted grunion run I fished 2 out of the 4 days and found plenty of grunion and a wide open shark,ray, and skate bite.

Yeah when they breed, all sorts of fish come out. This is a good opportunity to catch huge yellowfin croaker and barred surfperch.
I heard the grunion run also attracts sevengill sharks, surprised nobody ever targets those! But hey, what do I know? I'm just an internet fisherman. :LOL:
