What place do you guys recommend for small mouth fishing; and what lures, plastics or live baits work best? I usually catch LMB and have always wanted to get a small mouth. I do not keep them I always catch and release

the river (colorado) is full of them. you can DVL too. I think they are usually a little deeper. Try some grubs or tubes.

I recently went to Pyramid lake and caught some nice ones on a Shad colored curly tail Roboworm.
My friend and little brother caught 2 that were both about 1.5 lbs
Hope this helps, Tight lines :Fishing Hole:

I can't disclose the location but it is illegal to fish there n u can get a big fat ticket for trespassing...

They have started to be caught more often at castaic upper as well. curly tail grubs or standing yabies work great..

Is it better to fish from the shore or a boat?

You can fish some of the shore there but very very tough. If you do not have a boat the rental is only $55.oo I believe and every five times if you save the slip you can get a free rental. Just make sure you take all the smallies you catch home we do not want them competing and taking all of the stripers food.

What spots are better when fishing from a boat and how deep are they usually found?

Not gonna give it all away but they are fish and they do swim so I would try the water. Like i said my weapon of choice would be curly tail grub or river2sea standing yabies. just get out there and get after it, they are not easy to find at least not for me. put in the work and you will be rewarded they pull very very hard for their size. I have not been fishing castaic alot lately, I have been trying to figure out casitas this year. good luck.
