Saturday, October 20th, 2012

You are cordially invited to join S.W.A.T. and other fellow FNN members on the sand for a day of Family, Friends, Fun, Fishing and Food! :Big Grin:
This event is held in remembrance of Dana Rea - Fisherman 57, the Godfather of Team 57 and leader of the "Heaven" S.W.A.T. Chapter.

The admission to this event is FREE and open to all registered members of the Fishing Network.

Location: North Malibu Area. Event details will be sent via PM (Private Messages) to all registered members.

"Catch & Release" Surf Fishing Derby with prizes from S.W.A.T., The Fishing Network, and many others (list of sponsors be announced at a later date).

FREE raffle with amazing prizes donated by S.W.A.T. Members, Sponsors and So. Cal Tackle Shops! :Big Grin:

I will announce one major sponsor right now as a prelude. Lucky Craft International will be one of the many sponsors of the event and will have a representative on the sand to answer all your fresh & salt artificial hard bait questions.

The fishing derby is open to registered FNN members ONLY!
If you bring a guest, he/she can fish but cannot enter the derby. If your guest would like to enter the derby, he/she must get registered with a FNN screen name and send me a PM. I will add his/her name to the derby.

Junior Derby participants are exempt from this requirement.
All participants that are 15 years of age or under may enter the Junior Derby whether or not they are a registered FNN member. They must be accompanied by a parent. All participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Event participants will be identified by an event wrist-band that will be issued during the check-in. Wrist bands must be worn for the entire duration of the event.

There is no charge to enter the derby and is capped for the first 150 registered members of the event. Valid California Fishing License with a saltwater stamp. Catch & Release only. Artificial or bait. One rod per angler. Separate junior derby for the 15 and under anglers.

Note: There will be Department of Fish & Games presence at the event. DFG officer(s) will be on hand to answer any questions and/or inquiries.

All S.W.A.T. members will be attending the event. This is your chance to meet and hang out with the Crew and ask us anything you wish in regards to surf fishing. We will be happy to share knowledge and tips with you. If you are new to surf fishing, this is a great way to learn and get information. If you're already a seasoned surf angler, it would be fun to share experiences and swap stories. Maybe we all can learn something from each other. :Big Grin:

If you have never been surf fishing before, or have limited surf fishing experience, this is the perfect opportunity for you to get started and/or gain some valuable knowledge. Let me know in your registration PM or at the check-in table on the morning of the event, I will dedicate a S.W.A.T. member to you and your group or family to assist you for the day. He or she will help you with all the basics to get you started and headed in the right direction. Most importantly, we will educate you on some safety guidelines to follow while surf fishing. Catching fish is great, but the number one priority is for your safety, then having fun while learning something new. :Big Grin:

Food arrangements: Pot Luck style, bring something for yourself and maybe a little more to share with others. You are not obligated to bring a dish to the event. There will be plenty of food for everybody.
I will be bringing 200 of my Mom's World Famous Egg Rolls, they go pretty fast! :Envious:
Please see pot luck item list below. If you decide to contribute something to the pot luck, send me a PM and I will put that item on the list so we can prevent duplicates.

Registration process:Registration via PM only (Private Message). Open to all registered FNN members.
You must register in order to attend and participate in the event.
*Please do not register for the event until you are certain that you can attend.*
Please notify me of any cancellation as soon as possible.
Members under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent at the event. No dogs allowed on the sand in the Malibu area. This is an “Alcohol Free” event.

Send Arthur (Wingnut) a PM (Private Message) with the following information:
Your first and last name.
Do you wish to enter the fishing derby?
Pot luck item (optional).
Are you bringing any family members and/or guests? (Provide full names)

Once you are registered, you will receive a reply confirmation. Details on the exact time and location, details & rules of the fishing derby, plus other important information on the event will be sent to you at a later date.

Talk to anybody who has attended one of our previous Hunting Giants Surf Fishing Events. They will tell you that it's THE Event of the Year and one that should not be missed. :!!!:

Come out and join the fun. Hope to share the sand with all of you on the 20th of October! :Big Grin:

I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones... :Group Hug:

Final Update 10/15/12.
The weather is going to be nice and the swells are projected to be at a minimal. All systems GO! :Dancing Banana:

We now have 200+ registered participants. :Big Grin:
All registered participants should now have a PM confirming their registration and details of the event.

Department of Fish and Games and Representatives from our sponsors will be on hand to answer any of your questions regarding their services and products. Please thank them for their time and support.

Even though there will be some amazing trophies and prizes for the fishing derby and the raffle, please keep in mind that these material things are secondary to what this event is all about. "Family, Friends, Fun & Fishing" is our motto. First and foremost, have fun! If you are lucky enough to win some nice prizes, that will be a bonus. :Big Grin: If you are going this Saturday to pursue any objectives other than to enjoy yourself with family, friends and fellow anglers, you are missing the point of this event.

Looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday. :Group Hug:

Fishing Derby Rules & Regulations.
The fishing derby is open to registered FNN members ONLY!
If you bring a guest, he/she can fish but cannot enter the derby. If your guest would like to enter the derby, he/she must get registered on FNN with a screen name.

Valid California Fishing License with a saltwater stamp. Catch & Release only. Artificial lures or bait are allowed. One rod per angler (you may carry two rods, but can only fish with one rod at any given time).

Derby monitors will be on the sand during the entire contest. Look for a S.W.A.T. member with the HG4 event shirt and wearing a blue wristband if you need assistance.

All scorecards must be turned in to the registration desk by 1:00pm (no exceptions). Make sure your name is on the scorecard. No need to total up the points, we will do it for you. A time-set “fish off” will take place in case of a tie.

Trophies and prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in both the adult and junior derbies.

Scoring: Individual scoring only. Each angler must have his/her own scorecard. Anglers cannot combine catch for scoring. All catch must be measured (if needed) and documented on the scorecard immediately after landing. Release your catch in a timely manner. This is a “Catch & Release” event. If you need help scoring your catch, or with the release, any S.W.A.T. members that are close by can assist you.

Potluck: If you are contributing to the potluck. You can leave your dish at the designated potluck food table. BBQ and food items will be served starting at noon.
Thank you for your contribution… sharing is caring! :Big Grin:

Safety: Your safety and the safety of your friends and family is PRIORITY #1. It is impossible to foresee the weather and surf conditions this far out from the event, so we must be prepared. We are hoping for clear weather and flat swells, but that is beyond our control. We will have plenty of S.W.A.T. members, Lifeguards and State of California beach monitors on the sand. But we need your cooperation to ensure an incident free event. KNOW YOUR LIMITS! Don’t underestimate the power of the ocean. Do not wade out too far from the beach and never turn your back to the sea. If you are new to surf fishing, request a S.W.A.T. member to guide you or your group. Please allow us to educate you on safety guidelines to follow while surf fishing. Catching fish is great, but your safety always comes first!

I will reiterate once again, you do not need prior surf fishing experience to enjoy yourselves at this event. Simply let us know when checking in and we will dedicate a S.W.A.T. member to assist you for the day. I guarantee that by the end of the event, you will at least walk away with the basic knowledge of surf fishing that will help you succeed in future surf sessions.

Raffle: A FREE Raffle will be held at the conclusion of the event. All registered participants will be given a raffle ticket at check-in. You must be present to participate.
Feel free to contribute raffle prizes if you wish. Leave your donations with the event staff at time of check-in and we will include it in the raffle. We thank you in advance for your generosity. :Big Grin:

S.W.A.T. Members, Sponsors and/or Event Staff cannot participate in the fishing derby and are not eligible for the raffle. This event is about ‘YOU” and for “YOU,” the members and guests of the Fishing Network, along with your family & friends. It’s our way of showing our appreciation for your friendship and support throughout the years.

Looking forward to seeing all of you on the 20th! :Big Grin:

Looking forward to lending a hand again this year! Always great to see the smiles on people's faces when they're catching fish, and especially awesome when the kids get on the first few fish.

I encourage anybody who is even thinking of showing up to do so no matter what your experience level. We want EVERYBODY to catch fish, and will gladly help you tie your rigs, show you where to cast, how to read the water, and answer your questions with a smile. Show up, eat some great food, pull on some fish, and have a solid chance at winning some good prizes.

Can't wait to see everybody there,

Like Marc (BSP) mentioned, come on down and have some fun.
Your 'skill' level doesnt matter at all, if you know what your doing, awesome!
If you have no idea what's going on and have no clue how to tie rigs or read water, let one of the S.W.A.T members
know and we will gladly show you whatever you need to know to land some fish. Dont be shy.
All we want is for everyone to have a good time!
Location and time will be posted shortly, save the date though!

With that being said..
See you there! :Big Grin:

Saturday, October 20th, 2012

You are cordially invited to join S.W.A.T. and other fellow FNN members on the sand for a day of Family, Friends, Fun, Fishing and Food! :Big Grin:

I look forward to this Event as always and only 49 Days away!

To my suprise almost 6 hours have past and none of the potential 100 guest have responded, but then again I am not the one you are all hopefully sending your text to so maybe I am in the dark side of the communication thing!

Although I have been out of the Communication loop with "SWAT Central Command" of late due to mother nature ruling my life on the work front, I have word of some really nice prizes and great fun to be had at this event!

I will be bringing 2 Gallons of fresh Homemade Salsa and a Duffle Bag of Homemade Chips to help get things started!

I look forward to seeing you all at this ever Maturing Event in just 49 more Sunrises!

i would like to attend but i have never surfed fished before. What kind of gear do i need to buy? or do u guys have any spare gear?

Whats up angelsfan, you are welcome to join us at the event. But first, you must
send Arthur (Wingnut) a PM (Private Message) with the following information:
Your first and last name.
Do you wish to enter the fishing derby?
Pot luck item (optional).
Are you bringing any family members and/or guests?

The gear needed is nothing major or fancy. A basic freshwater bass spinning rod with 8-10lb test line will work perfectly.
We will have countless numbers of plastics to choose from. I believe rigged carolina rigs will be present once again as well. So dont
worry, just bring your freshwater bass rod and you'll be fine.
If you have never fished the surf before dont worry, when you message Arthur (Wingnut) to answer your questions, let him know that
if it would be possible to have a SWAT member assist you throughout the day. Arthur will then designate one of us to help you out.
The main thing here is to educate and have fun...so when ever you get a chance register, we're having a good turnout already.
Have a good one.

-Frank

Hello again all!

I think it is time for a little hazing here!

To all the guests that are fortunate to get signed in and be in the top 100 you need not worry!

I just noticed that in this pic from last year that the "SWAT Inforcer" John (Klocked) allowed a poacher into the pic on the far right backrow! AKA "BrandonFish"

I too noticed that (Mike) Bones & (Terry) Pontoon went into hiding mode in the front row with all of those of the younger "SWAT Crew" members that were plum tired and had to take a knee as the day came to an end!

Mean while look at what "murrieta angler" (Roberto) is getting ready to put the mature group in the back row through! OHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! The dreaded stairwell routine!

:Group Hug:

4th Annual Hunting Giants Surf Fishing Event - Saturday, October 20th, 2012.

Event duration: 7:00am – 4:00pm

Check in starts at: 7:00am. You can check in any time afterwards.

At check in: All registered participants and their guests must check in.
Registered participants entering in the Adult Fishing Derby will be issued “Orange” wristbands (Please have your fishing license with a saltwater stamp ready).

There will be a Department of Fish and Game presence at the event.

Junior Fishing Derby participants (15 years or younger) will be issued “Green” wristbands.

All guests will be issued a “Purple” wristband.

S.W.A.T. Members will be issued “Blue” wristbands.

Wristbands must be worn for the duration of the event.

Fishing derby participants will be given a scoring package to measure and document their catch. After checking in you can proceed to the Lucky Craft casting competition or start fishing at any time.

All registered participants will receive a free raffle ticket for the giveaway drawing at the conclusion of the event. Winners must be present to claim prizes.

Lucky Craft Lure Casting Competition (optional). Cast your LC at designated targets in the sand and earn points for accuracy (each participants will get 3 casts). 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners will receive LC lures and Bass Pro Shop Gift Cards. Courtesy of Lucky Craft International.

Fishing Derby Rules & Regulations.
The fishing derby is open to registered FNN members ONLY!
If you bring a guest, he/she can fish but cannot enter the derby. If your guest would like to enter the derby, he/she must get registered on FNN with a screen name.

:Big Grin:

But this gesture took Arthur by complete surprise.
Steve, Flyngby and Lieutenant Bones found him a perfect gift and Arthur was impressed. I have never seen him speechless, hahaha

As the official event photographer, I had the pleasure of documenting all the smiles on people faces and there were plenty.
Until HG5, yours truly, peace out!

Thank you SWAT members and everyone who participated in making this event happen. I really appreciate all of you taking your free time off to plan and organize such an amazing event for the community and for Dana. :Applause::Applause::Smash::Beer Toast:

I remember attending this event for the first time last year and just being blown by the kindness of everyone who participated and the SWAT members. You guys are all great people and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to fish alongside you guys. It was my girlfriend's, Shallom, first time attending the event and she kept on going on about how generous and kind everyone was and all I can say was "I KNOW!, that's why this event is SOO awesome." Thank you guys again showing us a good time.

I had a really good time, and like last time, I am 100% sure that I am going to clear my schedule for HG V.

Another GREAT event, again! Thank you Arthur and all of the SWAT members for holding this amazing and special day. Always a place where you can have fun and make new friends. Thanks for the Lucky Craft team and all of the sponsors and providers to the raffle and prizes. All of you contributed so much that no one left empty.
It was a blast. My friends and I had an extremely wonderful time; we were so into it, we even fished after the event till it started to get dark.
Almost forgot, the food was plenty and Mike's (exfactor) smoked Albacore was so delicious. Loved it!

Thanks for sharing the pics, I had the best time with great people. You SWAT members really put on one heck of a event.

I loved the fact you had members all up and down the beach sharing knowledge and assisting derby anglers.

Arthur you truely put one heck of a group together. Major props

I want to thank all of the SWAT team for putting together such an awesome event and all of the sponsors for making it possible! I had a great time meeting everyone and fishing alongside other fnn members. It was cool getting to meet and talk to all the familiar account names I see on the site in person :Big Grin: There was a huge selection of delicious food and I had been looking forward to eating some more smoked tuna since last year's event! Thanks Mikey, your cooking is truly legendary! Thanks Frank for all of the pictures and supporting me the last few minutes of the derby while I tried to catch that elusive final perch! All of the prizes were amazing and the casting competition was a lot of fun! I look forward to using my new reel and catching some fish real soon! Again, it was an amazing event and I'm so grateful to everyone that made this event possible. Friends, family, and fishing is really what its all about and I look forward to all the future events!

P.S. Arthur, that's one sweet ride! :Envious:

HG4 is now recorded into history!

Thanks to all of you for making it such a great event! The Event has grown dramatically thanks to all of the participants in the past few years!

“Dana” has had a definite impact on us to keep the dream alive!

Here are a few pics I took while I was able to peruse the beach before I was called to other duties! Had to fire up the other grill for the other grilled food!

First of all, thanks Flyngby and ILLest for those great photos. They kept me smiling. HG4 provided a wealth of memories; especially of all the super generosity and friendliness of the SWAT guys (and girl).. You are all just the best.
SP Dan for instance.. He was just a dynamo of positive energy all day long, involved anywhere a helping hand was needed... and Trollmeister..jeesh what a character.. kept me cracking up all day. I'll never forget him taking a Gulp Sandworm from the tub, dripping with scent, and eating it.. I mean chewing on it like me on a Krispy Kreme..and then swallowing it! Once again, jeesh.
And what an impressive number of participating sponsors, donating really top quality loot (Thank you all!!). A big time shout out to everyone who approached these generous businesses to come onboard.
And of course our magic man and Supreme Commander, Wingnut.. He's 'paying it' so far 'forward' he'll need three more lifetimes to collect.. and I hope he does.
Cheers, mates.. proud to know ya..

I want to thank the Upper S.W.A.T. Command for their guidance in pulling this amazing event together.
A special personal thank you to Arthur (Commander- Wingnut) and Mike (Lt- Bones) for not only their big hearts but for their personal time, effort, expenses, research and...etc....etc...that went into making this an unforgettable moment in time!

Dana Rea is the foundation on which you guys built the footing to support such a simple and beautiful idea that we were all fortunate enough to have experienced here today...."Families, Friends, Fun and Fishing".......Wow. Thank you Dana, Arthur and Mike.

To all of my S.W.A.T. Brotha's and Sista's......you are the best of the best!....I feel blessed to be a part of this S.W.A.T. Family!
All of you...poured your hearts into making this Event ...a success! What an amazing group of people...what an amazing family! :Big Smile::Applause:

To all the Sponsors that showed up with pleasant smiles...you got involved and interacted with all of us...thank you, thank you.

To all the donors, contributors, sponsors and FNN members.... for the generous prizes and gifts that were donated for this year's HG-4 Event!

To all the FNN family that contributed food, drinks and deserts or just showed up for a great time.......thank you, thank you, thank you!

And lastly.....I thank you for allowing me to be a part of this wonderful "Memorial to Fisherman57"...."I'm humbled and honored," to say the least.
This was my second HG event and my first as a S.W.A.T. Brotha. So I've seen it from both sides now and it's very good from either side :Big Grin:

I am officially stepping up now....offering to volunteer my time for the next up coming "Dana Rea Memorial" / "HG-5 Event".

I am willing, ready and able....Sirs! Ooooorah!

If there ever was an example of just exactly what Dana "Fisherman 57" Rea dreamed what "Family, Friends, Fun and Fishing" wanted his dream to become, Hunting Giants IV was just that and like Dana would have wanted the events just keep getting Bigger and Better!

Arthur, you have taken the torch and carried on with a tradition that I know our Friend Dana would be extremely proud of. Without your enthusiasm for the sport of surf fishing and your desire to share it with everyone, just as Dana did, this event would not have been possible. I can't thank you enough for inviting me into the S.W.A.T. Brotherhood and I'm looking forward to the next Hunting giants. :Thumbs Up:

Mike, I know how hard you worked and the tireless effort you have put into the past Hunting Giants events and you just keep giving more to make each event better than the last. It was easy to see how much you enjoyed seeing everyone having a great time and I commend you for your efforts. It is very obvious that you understand the meaning of "Family, Friends, fun and Fishing." Both you and arthur have paid forward more than anyone and I thank you both.:Thumbs Up:

And to all my S.W.A.T. Brothers and Sister, I'm proud to be friends with some truly great people and it was a pleasure to have played a part in this and all the past Hunting Giants gatherings with all of you. You too are to be commended for your efforts.:Thumbs Up:

As for me it is an honor to be a part of such a great group of people and I hope to be able to hit the beach with you all some time soon. It was a great feeling to see all the excitement as everyone who participated started rolling in, signing up and getting out to the water. It was especially cool to see the Moms and Dads with their sons and daughters fishing side by side and having a great time.
It was also fun to see old friends I haven't seen in a long time and getting to meet new members of the board. Every one of you who participated played a major part of making Hunting Giants IV a great success!:Thumbs Up:

Thank you all!

Here's a few of the pictures I took throughout the day..........It's pretty clear by the smiles that everyone had a good time.

Whatta’ fun event..

Glad I made it…there were smiles all around… : )

Huge thanks to all the swat crew who helped to put this together…and to those who do not know….putting an even together and seeing it through takes some time and commitment..

Great Job to all of you….

Another special thanks to all the other swat members who helped in other ways..

Assisting people

Setting up the physical aspects of the event onsite (looked like a lot of work went into the physical aspects)

Bringing the food

COOKING the FOOD (no small chore in itself)

Thank you to all of the above and to those I fail to mention : )

It was good seeing the familiar faces…some of you I’ve never met some I had….either way it was good ta share in the fun with you..

Thank you for having me along : )

HUGE congratulations go out to all the winners….you all earned it : )

Wooooo- Hoooooooooooooo!

HUGE props to each and everyone of you !

And to Bob..who took his honorable 3rd place standing in the cast contest
(Psssst…I told him wind from the south by southeast EQUALLED 4 degrees left and it’s IN~)

ahhhhhh ha ha ha : )

I had allot of fun…nice seeing you all and meeting those I had not met before…

AND..

A special thanks to those who took photos and posted them….no small feat in itself as well…it’s always sweet to reflect on those memories through the pics : )

Last but not least…

IWANT TO KNOW IF Daniel, Dlmoo312 DID WHAT I TOLD HIM HE SHOULD DO ????

Go home and pour a nice cold beer into the trophy goblet and pound it down in victory….he said he would…

DID HE ??? inquiring minds want to know !!!!!

Lastly, I’ll note that I’m SURE Dana was looking down onto everyone……smiling away as he stood upon his pristine fishing grounds in the sky..where the fish are ALWAYS BITING : )

He knew our presence there……he felt our good memories and always will..

We miss you buddy and we’ll NEVER forget you…

Sincerely,
Gary

Great job and a big congrats to all the SWAT guys & gals!

JerryG - Thank you for taking the time to help show me the ropes of surf fishing. I had to work for it but after about an hour I was able to land my first fish in the surf.... a perch.

Best part of these events is seeing the kids and families having a good time together as they should be.

Anyone who missed the event missed out.... glad I was able to make it!

I was all packed up and ready to go the night before. My daughter had a serious asthma attack and we spent most of the morning in urgent care.
Arthur, sorry I didn't text or call you. I did not want you to have another worry on your mind as you already have the weight of the event on your shoulders that morning. All is well now, thank Goodness, but looks like I missed out on a fantastic gathering. I've been to the first three, all of which weren't void of incidents, lol  From all the great photos, I can see that the event was a great success.

When Arthur was in the early stages of planning this event, there was so much to do. Mike and Arthur had worry about location, permit, insurance, and all of the headaches that comes with organizing this event. I know that the cost for putting an event like this together can be substantial. I suggested to Art that maybe we should charge a fee to attend the event to help offset the cost. He gave me a wink and said, "No, we'll manage..." I asked him why not and he said, "Because that's how Dana would have wanted it..." Leading by example, this is the backbone of SWAT, this is why we all get it.

HG4 was such an amazing event. I attended the HG3 event last year for my first FNN event and it was fantastic. I didn't think it could get any better, but this year's event totally blew me away.
Thank you Arthur and the SWAT crew for putting on this event. Thank you to all the sponsors for supporting the event. It gives the surf fishing community something to look forward to every year. :Big Grin:
I can't wait to see what HG5 have in store.

Arthur and the Entire SWAT crew,

My family and I had a really great time on the sand last weekend. It was a great event, and I'm glad that we were able to be a part of it. Thank you, thank you, for all of the hard work and organizing - it definitely showed and payed off. It was easy to recognize that, bigger than the event, with all of its food, prizes, and sponsors, was the camaraderie amongst the people who share the same passion. I, of course, never knew Dana, but I'd assume that, that's exactly what he was all about. Everyone there seemed to carry on that spirit. Everyone there was IN TO IT! Into sharing knowledge, telling stretched-truth stories, and charging the surf - looking for the next prize. I look forward to seeing more of the brotherhood out in the sand and rocks and surf, doing what we love to do.

With Gratitude,
Nate and Fam

VIDEO > > > OK, thanks for your patience, but a fishing tournament without video just doesn't bring the event home. I was -so- impressed by everyone who participated and made the HTG-4 event possible. But let's face it, a tournament is all about fishing, so here's a video I shot and edited to bring the event home! Click on the youtube link to view!

http://youtu.be/HjbYlL4Y4us

Here's the video description: Here's a video of our annual Hunting The Giants fishing tournament October 20th, 2012 at Leo Carrillo Beach, north of Malibu California. This year it was bigger than ever with over 175 anglers participating along with a support crew of about 20+ of The SWAT team who helped with the event. A big thanks goes out to "Wingnut" (Arthur) for making this a successful event, along with many other key helpers including "Bones" who did a lot of the logistics to make this happen. The focus of this annual event is to positively promote fishing to southern California anglers of all ages. This tournament was a catch and release event. I would like to personally thank each of those who helped as leaders as well as each of the participants. A huge thank you goes out to the SWAT team for your day of service to the community and this event. Again, thank you "Wingnut" (Arthur) for all you did to make this possible. I still cant believe how awesome this event was. I will never miss another Hunting Giants event ever. Ive already said this in some other post but the generocity of Arthur, the SWAT crew and every other members there was nothing short of amazing. It makes me happy to see that there are a good number of people out there that care about making sure that even a stranger that they have never meet has a good time. So many times you see people that are only interested in themselves and making sure that they are happy. The fact that with 150 plus anglers and each one of them being on the honor system for scoring their cards, I never felt like there was even a chance that someone would cheat or be dishonest. Events like this make me proud to be part of this group of people weather strangers or long time friends. Thanks again to ALL that contributed to HG4 and cant wait for next years. I hope that I can be some one who is able to contribute as much as everyone else did this year.

Wow, where do I start…? Hunting Giants 4 is one for the books, that’s for sure. :Big Grin:

I’m sure that we can all agree, the event was a big success. :Thumbs Up:

So many people to thank and I spent the past few days making call and sending emails to relay my gratitude to those who supported this gathering.

Many years ago, Dana (Fisherman 57) had a vision of turning strangers into friends by uniting them through fishing. His simple philosophy of “Family, Friends, Fun & Fishing” was embraced by fishermen of all ages and from all walks of life. Sharing their knowledge and fishing experience with each other in the name of conservation and passing their passion onto the younger generation.

The Hunting Giants event and many others, mostly in freshwater platform, were planned as a vehicle in which to bring people together for that purpose. I remember when Dana and I put together the first HG event a few years ago. We had about 30 participants that showed up. What we lack in numbers was compensated for with the abundant of enthusiasm of those who did join us for that first event. By the time the second HG event rolled around, we doubled the attendance and Dana and I knew that this one of a kind event, had the potential to be the biggest of its kind, anywhere.

When Dana passed away unexpectedly, it took the wind out of my sail and plans for HG3 were put on the shelf. I honestly did not want go forward with another HG event, even at the urging of fellow S.W.A.T. and FNN members. Then one day, I received a private message from a young lady and her dad asking me when the next Hunting Giants event will be held. They told me that they had so much fun at the first two and it was the one event they look forward to every year and that it meant a lot to them and their family. The message was sent by City Girl and her father, City Dad. It dawned on me while reading that message that this was what Dana had envisioned all along. I wasn’t about to let his hard work fade away and allow his legacy to become a distant memory. It gave me all the motivation I needed to call on my fellow S.W.A.T. members for their help to get the third HG event off the ground.

Last year’s event was a huge success and once again, we nearly doubled the number of participants of the previous event.

This year’s event was special. We actually had many people, members and sponsors alike reaching out to us, asking if they can help out and/or support the event. The willingness of individuals and companies to support our cause, along with the dedication and hard work of my S.W.A.T. Brothers and Sisters, is what made the HG4 event the success that you witnessed. Once again, we nearly doubled the number of attendance from the previous year.

The list of people to thank is extensive, and I will try not to miss anybody. But if I do, please forgive me and send me a reminder PM.

First of all, I want to thank all the registered participants that attended the event. These events have always been about “YOU” and for “YOU.” Thank you for coming out to join us in celebration of Family, Friends, Fun & Fishing in accordance with Dana’s philosophy. I hope that everybody had a great time. I appreciate the support that you have extended to me and the S.W.A.T. Crew throughout the years. :Big Grin:
Special thanks go out to those of you who went the “extra” mile to donate raffle prizes and contributed to the potluck. Way to “Pay it Forward.” :Applause:

A big applause for our sponsors that stepped up this year. Your generosity and support put a lot of smiles on peoples’ faces and we appreciate it very much. We thank you for your quality products, services and tireless dedication to our sport. :Not Worthy:
Please accept our sincerest thanks for your contributions to HG4 and we look forward to working with all of you again next year.

Finally… my S.W.A.T. Brothers & Sisters. I’ve already sent each and every one of you a personal PM, relaying my gratitude for your support. But I would like to acknowledge all of you here on the board. To give credit where credit is due. Thank you for your personal contributions, donations, time invested and tireless efforts to make this event memorable for all those in attendance. Once again, I showed up on the day of the event to a “finished product” to be the MC. I pretty much sat in my office and made phone calls. My job was made easy, by the hard work of those who care about the happiness of others, more than they care about their own… Thank you for “Getting It”, for your willingness to “Pay it Forward” and to openly embrace the spirit of Family, Friends, Fun & Fishing. :Group Hug:

Yes… Dana would have been proud. :Big Grin:

Here’s looking ahead to Hunting Giants V. It will be bigger and better than ever!

Sincerely,
Arthur (Wingnut)
