What a night of fishing is all I can say about the Independece Catfish Shootout held on Saturday 07/07/12. Tons and tons of quality stringers made their way to the scales from all over the lake! Guys where reporting wide open fishing in the Santiago Flats, Boat Dock Cove, Sierra Cove and the West Shore. Some spots reminded the writer of Sand Bass fishing on the Hunigton Flats as boats where literally in a huge circle and whacking the fish. Fish where really hitting on the Bite On Mack Bites, Shrimp, Shrimp in Garlic Sauce, Mackeral, and flylined Beef Livers. Flyling baits in the said locales has been the preferred technique.

Ronson Smothers of Los Angeles caught this huge stinger of Channel Catfish during the day and was all ready weighed in before nightfall even came. He was one of the first anglers in on the Santiago Flats bite! This five fish stringer weighed in at 39.5lbs and was topped by a 9.14 Channel Catfish that earned Ronson 3rd place in the derby and a $245 pay day.

Milton Jackson checked in this huge 12.2 Channel Catfish right around 10:00pm and was poised, key word WAS, to take home the big prize in the derby. However it was not meant to be. Milton landed the huge Channel Cat while fishing the Santiago Flats with Mackeral.

No Troutdog I was not 3 Monsters in when I posted this. I just put the top 5 money amounts because they were really high for a catfish tournament. We did pay out the top 10 spots!
