Slow and steady pick from shore while on vacation. The usual nearshore grumpy rockfish, some surfperchin whie wife and kids play on beach....
Nothing special until yest afternoon just as the high tide made the switch.. Bite turned on.
I fell and broke my Shimano Crucial swimbait rod so I sat next to my boy and watched him fish and shot the breeze.. I see his line slack and what looked like a thump.. I told him he better check.
As he tightened up he says, Im hung up. I still didn't think so so I put heavy tension then felt the THUMP THUMP of about a foot long headshake..... YOU'VE GOT A BIGGUN....
But he's hung up.. I put pressure and it gave a few feet but still hung, I slacked off for a few seconds and still hung,, heavy pressure again. Nothing.. By this time the headshakes stopped and I thought we lost it...
Slacked off again, nothing. Heavy pressure, enough to break off cause I thought fish was gone and then a drag peelin run! 30 ft or so.
I knew what it was so I throw the rod back into my boys hand and run down to llip the fish. As I make my way to the water I see the fish hit surface with a wide open mouth. SHEEESH!
My boy did perfect I got to the wateredge if not into the water. He works a swell and places the fish right at my feet. I run my hands into the gill plate in one quick motion just before a swell invelops me waist deep. I pin the fish with both hands to the rock while the swell subsides..
My dad and son said they thought I was going to wash away or lose the fish. So the few seconds of the swell seemed like minutes for all of us,, finally the water left me and the fish high and dry and I came climbing out with my sons PB fish ever

32 inch 15 lb Ling!
Memories....
I carried the fish back over the jetty for him but made him carry it across the beach for all the onlooker action
I should of grabbed a pic of the smile on his face...
A few more random fish.
