Headed out early in the AM. Started fishing at first light. Low tide wasn't until 7:30. It was calm out there early, at times it really felt like fishing a pond, it was that calm. The surge picked up about 7AM, But even still the breakers were far out.
This was the conditions for today.

There was a ton of salad this morning even though it was calm. Piles of salad strewn all over the beach. Started fishing my Tenacious 5" Swim bait. Brown Bruiser color. Started casting and about 10 minutes in I feel that huge whack and the fish starts peeling about 50 feet of drag. Start bringing her in and see this huge tail come out of the water. Get her in a little closer and POP, off she goes. I'm telling you this fish was a 30" plus easy. Dam it!
Today I brought a bag of chum with me and keep it in my fanny pac. I just tossed some frozen pieces of dines I had left over from awhile back. Broke some up in pieces and chucked some out there. About 5 to ten minutes later after losing a big one. I'm reeling it in nice and slow and feel this slam! Drag was set just right. If I could give one tip it would be to make sure your drag is set right to the target your going after, you will save a lot of fish being prepared.
This big dawg fought me tough. I fell at least twice trying to beach this fish. I was tangled up in kelp, and it was hard walkin in the water. Still was able to keep the line tight and after 10 minute battle. I was able to beach this 29 inch Halibut!
My first big dawg. Did I mention there was a ton of salad Everwhere?? Huge clumps floating in the water as well. Casting wasn't easy today. really had to work for it.
