Some safe beaches to surf fish from?

Hi,

I was looking to do some surf fishing and it's been a while since I've gone back to the local ocean to fish. Now that my son is older, I'd like to start fishing more frequently. Can someone advise me of some good beach area to fish from? I know LB allows fishing from the beach but does places like Hermosa allow it?

ITs a good place to start. For me, I just spent countless hours on these boards and also asked around while doing recon at the local beaches. I know of a few spots off of the top of my head, like newport, but this knowledge is useless because there have been recent closures from Jan 2012 and while it may be legal to fish from the surf on one point on the beach, one small misstep to a restricted area could cost you.
