Hello FNN,

These pics are from my family vacation last week at Shasta Lake. I am learning to fish freshwater Bass, I usually fish catch and release at NPH. This year I am concentrating on Catch and Release with Freshwater Bass. I could not tell what type of Bass this was. Also the scale marks on my gripper were worn down so I couldnt get a good weight. The shoe is a size 15 Wide. It was the only comparison I could think to use in the moment. The fish was safely released after photos.

I think that's a spotted bass, judging by the relationship of the fish's eyes to the back of its mouth. Shasta has all 3 species of black bass, but the spots are overwhelmingly the majority of the bass in the lake in my experience. Just this past May, i caught around 200 bass over 6 days, 10 of which were smallmouth, and the rest were spots. ZERO largies.

Assuming its 20" long (estimate) I'd say it went 4 lbs, which is a really nice spot. Great catch man.

By the way, is that the dock at the Tsasdi resort? That's where I stay when I go.

Eric,

It is great to see you enjoyed yet another trip up to Shasta! I love the 1st pic of the pup with it's "Alien Eyes" staring down the catch. Looks like you have him well trained. My Pup would have torn the fish to pieces.

I too remember him out in the water on a previous trip up there in the water chasing your catch to the boat!

Look forward to your next Report!

Thanks Steve. Patch has a rigorous traing schedule that take place at the Pudd. He know if he isn't a good partner that we will get off the water. He loves fishing. The first time Kevin and I took him fishing, he jumped into the water and swam out with a carp in his mouth. No lie. How is your family. Hope all is well.

Nice fish, I fish the NPH in my tube often and have only caught a few bass so far. They are hard to catch, but wow what a fight from such a small fish. Nothing like stocker trout that's for sure.
