Sorry, not to sound like a dick but this is the report section. If you check out the discussion section and/or do a search you'll find tons of useful info on tip, tackle, and location. Sorry, if that's not the answer you're looking for but that's how most of us got our start.

Good luck and hope to read your Hali reports soon.

Actually DR I don't really understand your post but as some kind FNN members have pointed out I don't belong here, my place is not to be fishing in a man's world. ... Wow lol

reelgurlzfish,
I don't think rebel was trying to be rude, everyone makes the same mistake when they first start using this site.
I did it myself a couple of times and was told by others the same thing.
Don't take it to heart... :Big Grin:

Now,
Back to business!
Try giving Bolsa Chica a shot for the halibuts.
Since you are using dead meat, try hitting the outgoing high tide from the protected lagoon.
The lower the tide, the better.
Also, if you can get some live bait, that would be the ticket for sure.
Good Luck,
Robert

Thanks Robert.
My apologies reelgurlzfish, I didn't want to come out as being rude at all. Like murrieta angler said we all made the same mistakes at one time or another.

Now, to answer your question about halibut fishing....

I'd recommend picking up a1 or 2 LCFM 110's, some 3" Big Hammer swimbaits (sexy smelt, spottie special, or green sardines), or drop shot and walk the surf.

Don't do much pier fishing so I can't help you there-sorry.

I hate pier fishing.. too many knuckleheads tying improper knots..

I stopped going when someone almost hit me with a big 4 oz weight..

Then there's the problem of piers being hit or miss..

Hit the surf or harbors instead. Inlets and canals are halibut magnets.

The canal I hit yesterday is full of pancake halis smacking bait near the surface.

Kalins salty lunker grubs are good. I use the 3 inch grubs.

Watermelonseed is my go-to color for both spotties and halis.
In this new era of sophisticated lures its easy to overlook the grub.

Fresh or salt, watermelonseed works!

Drop shot is a good way to catch halis. Pick up some zoom flukes!

White and Pearl are good halibut colors. Flashy silvery grubs are good too.

We are staying away from the Pier too. Enjoying the surf. Throwing swimbaits and gitzits . Thinking I bought too small though. Dunking bait too.
