My dear CiudadPadre, how does requiring me to pay for automobile insurance coverage make that coverage more affordable? (Answer for you remedial students out there: By making the person at-fault in an accident financially accountable, thereby preventing the person not at-fault from having to bear the financial burden of such an accident, and thus reducing his premiums.)

Almost to a person, my family members and friends who are opposed to this law have a great deal of enmity for President Obama, and it has clouded any sort of rational exchange with them on the subject. My question to them is this: why do you continue to carry the torch for politicians who do not have the average citizen's best interests at heart? Who are nothing more than puppets of an industry (which has remained surprisingly quiet in spite of the ramifications of this law) which is elbow-deep up their backsides?

I've used plastic bags from Vallarta Market before, but throwing them in the bed of your truck is a good example of 'out of the box' thinking that the Bucket Brigade likes.

I'm sorry but my application is not complete. I did not include the fact that I am a C&R fly fisherman, but I need to explain! After snagging, I mean catching my limit of trout I switch over to my fly rod. Now DFG does not target fly fisherman I believe as poachers so that gives me cover. I normally use a size 6 treble with a big wad of powerbait on a floating line, I believe this gives the bait a very slow rate of fall and keeps me in the zone longer and the bigger treble supports my big ball of PB but still is heavy enought to sink. When I hook up I bring her in quick (girls are better cause they might have some roe in um). I then use my BPS gripper to hold um good and yank hard and quick on my 20lbs fluoro. line. This usually results in a big gob of trout guts left on the treble. I then toss the carcass into the water, littering the shoreline with trout bodies will give you away DON'T DO IT!!!

Those trout guts are excellent striper bait!

I would like to become the High Desert bucketbrigadeer representative but understand that Nessie Hunter has a leg up on me so just private status would suit me fine, thank you in advance.

Oh yea, well, i once stoll a legal stringer of trout from a kid, and added a extra trout on it to make it illegal. Then i trolled the stringer through dvl and caught the world record striper on it. I cleaned the striper on the shoreline and left all the guts and skin there and just ate the filets as well as eating the illegal stringer of trout. Then i went up north to fish golden trout with my big bucket of rainbow and chartreuse powerbait, but then decided i didnt need the powerbait so i just dumped it into the lake and scooped out well over my legal limit of trout with my net. Then i ate one and decided i didnt like the taste so i dumped my catch on the shoreline and netted out some more trout to see if they would taste different. Then went back to dvl to use those trout as striper bait and I caught 20 stripers all over 20lbs using a 10 leaders with quadruple hooks so big that theres isnt even a measurment name for them like 4/0 or something. There just called really big *** hooks. then i told one of the dfg what i did and told him not to tell anyone if he want money. So now i have a dfg agent on my payrole. And he is getting promoted next month to chief dfg. and hes gonna arrest anyone that catches anything less than the legal limit OF THERE TARGET SPECIES!!!!!!

Yes we do.

From yellowfin croaker, to short white sea bass, we make five course meals after every fishing adventure. Yes, at the end of the day, we could probably get better fare at lower prices just going to a seafood restaurant, but someone's gotta eat the bag of anchovies that were left over from trying to fill up our buckets with mackerel off of the pier.

But enough about our crew. We don't seek recognition. All we try to do is get our limit (and the limit for our 2 year old we've dragged along to get one more bucket filled), one day at a time.

I'm still trying to figure out how the main portion of Obamacare that has been under attack from conservatives was thought up by conservatives years ago....

Damn, I'm gone to the sierras for a week, and everybody wants to join da krew! CityDad, after reviewing your application and background investigation, I have to say, your motives for joining are questionable. The last thing we need in our midst is a DFG informant. I'm willing to issue a probabionary membership under the following conditions:

1. I have to see video footage of you eating a fish.
2. You must tie a powerbait imitation fly.
3. You must use only WD40 for attractant from now on.

If all conditions are met, you shall be dubbed City "Bigfoot don't need a license" Dad.

What DID arrive was our leather jackets. We're now ready to race other crews for pink slips.

It was thought up by moderates, or RINOs if you will, not conservatives. And it was ridiculed and scorned by the rest of the party, hence it being dropped. This current bill is a massive mistake that's going to cost our nation trillions of $$ and numerous jobs lost. There's no point in arguing about it here because so few here fully understand the huge negative consequences this will have on our nation if it stands. Or they simply don't care. Then there's the "elitists" who think they're right no matter how wrong they are. If this sticks, and 20 years from now our country is flat axx broke like Greece, or France, or Spain, or Italy, or etc. etc. Don't say I didn't warn you...

Oh, and at least Romney admits to his mistake, something Obama refuses to do, and in fact blames on everyone else. Hellofa leader there, not. And do consider the state in which he governed, and the majority liberal legislature that makes it's laws...

...but the idea as I now understand it thanks to Lady Quagga - that people should be required to have health insurance in the same way that drivers are required to do so - sound so Republican to me: "You'd better be damn sure to pay for your self because the rest of us bearing the cost of your B.S. in wrong."

How can the GOP be against insisting that everyone be responsible for paying their medical bills?

Ahh, thanks for the clarification Hawgz.

I was under the impression that the mandate was once conceived by the Heritage Foundation, whose members include Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. In fact, I found this from the Heritage Foundation's website:

'Furthermore, to allow people to go without health insurance, and then when they do fall ill expect someone else to pay the tab for their treatment is a de facto mandate on providers and taxpayers. Romney proposes to take that option off the table, leaving only two choices: Either buy insurance or pay for your own care. Not an unreasonable position, and one that is clearly consistent with conservative values."

My mistake!

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/apr/01/barack-obama/obama-says-heritage-foundation-source-health-excha/

After it appeared, the Heritage Foundation's communications office contacted us to argue that our rating of Mostly True was too generous to the president. We did some additional reporting to review our ruling. Our second round of reporting -- primarily talking to conservative policy experts outside of Heritage -- solidified our initial conclusions. Below is the updated version of our story, which retains the rating of Mostly True, published April 26, 2010.

So essentially, it's "Mostly True" that the idea of the individual mandate was conceived by the Heritage Foundation.

However, we heard from nine people affiliated with conservative policy organizations other than Heritage who thought that the president's statement was reasonably accurate.

Seven of them declined to publicly express their differences with Heritage for fear of making waves within the tight-knit conservative policy world.

Thanks for the link, Hawgz!

I didn't have time to read the all 5 pages of posting, but I wanted to point out that the Federal Gov can't make force each state to participate in the plan. States still have a choice to participate or not. If they don't choose to participate they will only loose funds allocated to that state by the program and will not incur any additional penalties or fines if they don't. Several states already came out and said they will not support the program and as a result the plan will not generate as much funds as expecting causing more states to drop out until it's eventually dropped.

Yeah, let's take Texas for example.

24 million residents, 28% uninsured, great job there Perry, which equates to nearly 8 million people without health care.
Since there is a 16% poverty rate, let's say there are nearly 4 million people who really can't afford it.
That means nearly 4 MILLION Texans could afford insurance, but choose not to have it. Yet, they still have a right to seek ER care at the expense of who? Oh yeah, federal taxpayers (because TX does not have state income taxes) who send billions each year to support Texas' hospitals.
Yeah, I think it is pretty clear why they have no incentive to get insurance or expand medicaid.

Why?

They would have to shoulder their own costs.

I thouth texas did have income tax. You just didn't have to pay it if you made less than a certain amount of money. One of my cousins told me this either last year or the year before last, cuz she makes less than like $45,000 a year or something like that. And i think $45,000 is the limit. But i could be wrong.

Texas does NOT have a state income tax at all. My oldest son lives in Texas and my wife and I will be leaving of Friday for a family reunion in Texas. Texas does have sales tax and higher property taxes to make up for the loss of a state income tax. DMV fees are much, much less than California. Also hunting and fishing licenses are really cheap also.

My automobile insurance IS going to pay for your damages if "I" cream you in an accident, that's called liability, as you should well know.

Actually it is not a bogus argument. In a scenario where liability insurance was not a requirement, drivers would have to add uninsured-motorist policies to their coverage in order to recover the cost of repairs where they were not at fault. In such a scenario, the more insurance companies would have to pay out on such claims, the higher the premiums for uninsured-motorist policies would be.

As you should well know.

Health care providers do not absorb the costs of uninsured patients - unless their goal is to declare bankruptcy. Those costs get passed along to those who do pay for services. (On a side note: unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard of hospitals closing down their emergency services. I'll give you one guess as to why.)

In the world we live in at this moment, who in their right mind believes that deregulating one of the largest industries in this country is a WISE idea? We are still dealing with the disaster that came as a result of banking deregulation, and yet you have political nincompoops carrying a torch for yet another profit-driven industry? For a moment, let's entertain this fantasy where we "deregulate" health care in the hopes of reaching medical Shangri-La. What do you propose we do when major health care providers mismanage their businesses to the point of bringing health care to the edge of oblivion? A bail-out perhaps?

EDIT: And who the eff is this Bucket Brigade?

Indeed, a bogus argument it is. Your hypothetical example is null and void because liability IS a requirement, as it should be when you take a thousand pound missile with wheels out onto the road and subject others to YOUR driving habits. If you choose not to purchase uninsured motorist coverage, and you are hit by an uninsured motorist, YOU are out of luck. If you do, you are ALREADY PAYING FOR IT and should NOT be penalized if you ever, repeat, ever, should need use it. In 37 years of driving, I haven't, yet I keep paying it.

"Health care providers do not absorb the costs of uninsured patients - unless their goal is to declare bankruptcy. Those costs get passed along to those who do pay for services. (On a side note: unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard of hospitals closing down their emergency services. I'll give you one guess as to why.)"

Illegals and highly irresponsible people such as drug addicts, alcoholics, lazy chronically unemployed folks who CHOOSE not to be responsible working and contributing members of civil society. All folks who we are going to be FORCED to pay for. I worked my arse off all my life and responsibly have taken care of myself, and my family of 5. I WILL NOT BE FORCED TO PAY FOR SAID LOSERS OF SOCIETY. I WILL contribute to the elderly, the handicapped, and the veterans who put their lives on the line to protect and defend our constitution based federal republic's guaranteed INDIVIDUAL freedoms and liberties and the people who live in it.

"I just sneezed milk back into my bowl of Cheerios."

You obviously didn't read it, and is a perfect example of your partisanship (socialist much quagga? Indeed, they are a communal, pervasive, invasive, and problematic collective that are a pain in the arse for all us anglers. The irony, indeed). Perhaps a couple of those cheeriOs wedged themselves into to your nasal passages and will allow more oxygen into your brain and the increased oxygen supply will allow it to produce some common sense. The Heritage Foundation is espousing answers for the problem using FREE MARKET ideas. You know, the laws of supply and demand.

"Don't. Make. Me. Laugh."

Trust me, I'm not laughing, and I have no intention of "making you laugh". I take very seriously what a minority of citizens, and non-citizen supporters are attempting to force upon the majority 63% of AMERICAN CITIZENS who oppose this monstrosity of collective socialist thought and free market destruction. This program will be a disaster for our country and will drive the final nail in America's private enterprise, free market coffin. There are far better answers than a complete government takeover of one of the largest segments of our private enterprise based society. You're smart, you should know this.

You use the word "deregulate" loosely. I don't. I prefer to use the word "reform". For instance, currently, due to bad government regulations, health insurance cannot be sold across state lines, effectively creating 50 insurance cartels, or monopolies if you will, to charge, and lose all they want, or not. Allowing nationwide sales would INCREASE competition and through free market principals, FORCE competitive pricing, hence lowering costs and premiums. The medical industry's regs are just as bad. Everything pertaining to "healthcare" must be reformed, but not by a "progressive" administration and it's crony capitalist allies in the insurance and pharmaceutical industries in their lame attempt of a power grab, and essentially a "bloodless coup" of our government "type" (the secret "back room deals" between their industry leaders and the Obama administration are now legendary). But instead, through our private, free market based economic model. Bad government regulations got us here because far too many Americans DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT OUR GOVERNMENT IS DOING and are undereducated to the point where the vast majority of certain segments of our society are easily mislead by slogans like "Hope & Change", and can't read past those two words. How sad indeed.

Mismanage? Lol, oh good one quagga. Our current administration has outspent all previous combined in just 3 years. We are in debt to the tune of 16 trillion $$$ and counting. They've given billions to a gaggle of companies who have gone BK(solar anybody?), and given large shares of company control to unions(hint, UAW) at the expense of private shareholders. And you want these same folks to take over everyone's health? Personally, my health is my own business, no one else's. And it "ain't gonna happen".

Your post is full of ridicule, hypothesis, rhetoric, and what if's? But no suggestions. I put forth the system and ideas I support by posting a link to the one the Heritage Foundation, and Mitt Romney are supporting, and will pass, in place of a socialist coup in one of the largest segments of our fiscal society, that would benefit ALL people, and all businesses that adhere to private enterprise and free market principals. You know, the very principals that made us the greatest, and most desired country in the world to live in.

Oh, you mention deregulating banks and the housing bust. Why don't you mention the mandates placed on banks that forced banks to loan to unqualified buyers under threat of punitive action by the FDIC for noncompliance? You know, the one certain community organizers and attorneys used to sue said lending institutions, forcing said loans? Fannie and Freddie quagga? They dumped 6 trillion $$$ worth of toxic assets onto our economy. Funny how they are the babies of the demorats. Ask Rahm, he was on the board of directors over at Freddie when all these "deregulation's" took place. Funnier how he helped get Obama elected the first time around...

The Supreme Court has just upheld the health care approach innovated by Mitt Romney and the Heritage Foundation. Any comments?

Yup, you lie! The Obama care bill, and the one the Heritage foundation backs, are two very different animals. One uses the "Free Market" approach through reforms, the other leads to an eventual government takeover. You progressives, always spinning and taking advantage of the uninformed...
