Hey FNN,

Made our drive up the 395 in good time on Thursday afternoon, but the wind was blowing like a mofo. We ran up the mountain at Bishop to see what the conditions were like, and it was blown out big time up there.

This is only my second time to the Eastern Sierra's so was not really sure where to go, but took advice from some fellow FNN anglers and a camp host and headed up to Rock Creek to try and escape the wind.

Set up camp and tried to sleep. Woke up at around 6:30 and headed straight up to Rock Creek Lake and launched the yaks. Very Scenic view, and the wind was blowing, but it was fishable.

Not 5 minutes in and bendo - first of many DFG stockers

Didn't take many more pics, cause the fish were all cookie cutters with the larger fish going just over 1 pound. Fish really seemed to like the Bite On Roe, as soon as I started using the Roe it was fish after fish, with several double hook ups. The fish were small but plentiful. Had a great day on Rock Creek Lake. Metered some big fish, but could not entice them to bite. Does this lake have large Catfish or some other species that gets very large?

Hit up Rock Creek the next morning after breakfast and was treated to some awesome scenery and beautiful native rainbows.

Packed up on Sunday and hit the road, but stopped by Intake 2 on the way back and fished the float tube for a couple of hours. Got a couple of Browns. Talked to a local who said that they had just drained intake 2 last week, but after they refilled it DFG had stocked it several times, once with larger than usual rainbows.

There are no catfish in Rock Creek Lake, been fishing that lake for over 50 years and the only fishI ever caught are trout...

Interesting. Wish I could have enticed one of those large marks to bite. Maybe some monster browns like the one caught out of PVR a while back.

Love those wild rainbows. I usually seem to catch more brookies on R.C.

Such pristine fish, the biggest one went about 10 or 11 inches which is a personal best wild bow or me. Didn't get into any brookies on the creek.

Hey man, good job out there. Looks like you're fishing with a Phenix Iron Feather and Stradic Ci4 combo? I got the same combo... love it. Your Ci4 is missing the reel handle cap, btw.

Only trout outta Rock Creek Lake so far, but that's only since 1967. :) I don't doubt that double-digit browns live in a lot of the larger Sierra lakes, but it will take good imitations of stocker trout to tempt them--fish of that size don't feed on baetis look-alikes. I have metered some big-a$$ed fish in Twin Lakes and the June Loop, so it wouldn't surprise me to see one come from RCL.

Judging by all the little browns we catch at RCL, I'm sure there's some really big ones down there. I've metered the same thing, lots of big marks sitting near the bottom, but was never able to catch any.

Yeah, lost it while I was up there. Got to head over to Shimano to pick one up.

The Pink/White Mice Tails were working really well. Also caught a bunch on the Natural (Crawler Imitation) Trout King Worms. Trolled very slowly a flat fish lure caught the biggest trout of the trip. Good luck out there!
