Hi All,
--- Hope everybody had a great fishing weekend and a wonderful Father's Day. ---
Another weekend means another fishing trip for me. Every Friday night before going to bed, I would look at the tide chart. :Idiot:
Noticed that the tide condition is similar as two weeks ago where I had my epic WSB moment. So decided to hit the same ground and arrived at 6:00 am.
Upon arrival, was surprised to see more cars than the usual. Got to the sand, looked over the beach, and four fully-equipped troops already attacking the waters. No questions needed, it's the Salt Water Attack Team.
.................................................. .................................................. ...................:Death2Above:
They were already real far down, as usual, so I just start working the areas and moved towards them as I go. Checking to see if there were any left overs, but the only pull I had were weeds & waves. :Rolls Eyes: These GIs know how to sweep the place pretty clean!
Finally caught up with these guys, had a nice chat with Mike (bones). Then met Ramiro/Ram (saltman) for the first time who landed a nice calico bass (a 4lb er) earlier in the session. Then in a distance I heard "White Sea Bass", you just know it was Arthur (wingnut) shouting. :Big Smile: That means the ghosts are still around. Met up with Arthur, and then Don (bachiboy) who I also met the first time. Found out that Don caught the WSB and landed another one earlier. Both short, but good enough to keep our motive flowing.
So we proceed fishing again and I passed them a bit to continue to scrutinize the beach as I usually do. Then from a distance I saw Arthur backing up to the sand and you know what that means. He landed a good size fish, ended up to be a calico.
I continued to toss the LC, and reeled it near some rock and kelp structure close to shore (around 20 ft away). Finally get some action. Big hit, set the hook, came with a shake or two. Followed with another shake with some splashes from the water without exposing itself. Felt pretty heavy. Tried to get him closer, then he ran out, but not wildly. Thought to myself " Could this be my Personal Best Halibut ? ". Mike was the closest to me but still in a distance. He saw my rod bend pretty good, so he came over to check the action and called the crew over. I finally got a first glance of it's head near shore but not clear what it was because it was covered with kelp. Definitely not a flattie. As it kept fighting the kelp came off and, suddenly, I was in shock mode. :EyePop: Shocked of the size of this Calico caught from near shore. This TODE was tired out and landed it in with the help of the waves. :Bug Eyes: A 23" Calico Bass caught from the surf.
Once it was on the sand, the crew arrived. They were also all surprised and happy for me. Arthur and Don helped me take the wonderful photos. Thanks again! We had a great talk and took a group photo arranged by Arthur where he managed to have the camera sit on the rock a little tilted. hahaha..
Look at this Beast! Personal Best Calico Bass.

Another shot with my hand in his mouth. Afraid to hold him up by one hand like the lake people do.

I know this is probably a normal size calico comparing to what you can get at the outer kelp beds or at the Break Wall, but I am really happy and satisfied of this catch; I've only caught a few from the surf which range from 12" to 16" on the LCs.
After that, I fished another 1.5 hours with no other hits. Unfortunately, I lost my LC Flash Minnow 110 (Aurora Gold) during that time. Loved that lure! It served me well, helped me get my PB Halibut & Calico.
I hope you enjoyed my report. Willing to see your report as well.
Mike : It's always great to fish with you. You always teach me stuff and share your experience with me.
Ram : Great to meet you. Even after they left you were still working the area. Great dedication, is that SWAT spirit.
Arthur : Tell me, what's your relationship with Poseidon. The last two times I've fished with you, something awesome happens. Thanks. :Envious:
Don : Great to meet you. Although didn't get a chance to talk to you too much, but will definitely have many chances in the near time. Congrats on your 2 * WSB.
Thanks,
Albert (jinbow)
