Went to NPH around 10 PM, to find the water full of smelt fry.. The microbait was so thick I had to jig the hell outta the grub..

This was a spinnerbait/crankbait bite for sure.. too bad I was Ill-equipped.. =(

Oh well, after 4 miles of walking, casting, trimming plastics, and getting stuck in quicksand, I finally caught the only fish of the night, a male Spottie:

It was kinda fun scaring the hell out of the bait by suddenly turning on my high-power tactical flashlight! (dont worry, I gently scooped up the beached smelt and put them back.)

Lots of herons all over the place, completely fearless, too. They all flocked around me when I turned on the flashlight. Scary!

Been seeing a lot of mini baits in KH too. Are you sure they are smelt ?

Yes. I got a close look. I did see large splashes near me.
Possibly juvenile halibut. Herons everywhere eating the smelt.

A full moon is better. The fish can see your lures.

These grubs should work better. I Boiled them to soften the plastic.
