Spotted these small fish (later identified them as possibly chub after the trip?) leaping upstream at a small, local mountain stream. Maybe these chub?

The most persistent ones were actually trying to swim up a solid concrete spillway, some had actually reached the top (or close).
I'm not very familiar with the spawning or migration habits of these fish, but June is stated in the article above to be a prime spawning month.
