Hey everyone, this is my first post in a while. I've been at college for the past year at Northern Arizona University. I'm back for the summer and decided to get a few of the old high school buddies together for a quick weekend trip up to mammoth. This was the first trip up top the sierras i've made by myself. it was pretty nice to be able to call all the shots and be in control of where we go.

Now to the fishing. We left around 1:30 on friday afternoon, with the intention to arrive in mammoth around 6:00ish. however, true to my nature, as soon as as I saw the sierras, i wanted to stop for a bit and get a line wet. We stopped in lone pine, and fished the creek for a while. we fished at the campground for about an hour, and my friend and I each pulled out 2 on jigs. All were decent sized stockers. We got back on the road, with the intention of driving the res of the way without stops, until we say the sign for the paiute palace casino in bishop. I quickly won 35 bucks in blackjack and we were back on the road :). We arrived at my buddies dad's house in mammoth around 7:00 and had a great dinner at toomey's in the village.

Saturday: we woke up early and were on lake george at around 7:30. our plans were to fish george until it warmed up a bit, and then take the short hike up to TeeJay lake. George was pretty slow. The wind was whipping pretty hard, and I think that contributed to the low bite. I managed only one in the back of the lake by the inlet and my friend got another off of the large rock at the back of the lake. I spotted a HUGE brown form the rock, ad tried to entice it with everything I had in my tackle box, but received no love from the brown. still a pretty exciting sighting. We hiked up to TJ around 10:00 and fished for about an hour. I got 2 or 3 rainbows and my friend chris got 2. We walked to the stream that TeeJay feeds, which is absolutely LOADED with rainbows, and pulled a few more out. All of which were on jigs, chartreuse and white. We called it a morning and found a beautiful spot overlooking the lake and smoked a cigar and put a few back. We got back into town just in time for our 3:00 tee time at snow creek.

Sunday: The friend whose dad's we were staying at had to leave early sunday morning, kicking my other friend and I out of the house earlier than we expected. our initial plans were to sleep in, take a bike ride up to the lakes via the new path, and head back down and back onto the 395. WE road up to the lakes, which is a great ride for anyone who enjoys bike riding. We stopped at upper twin lakes and saw a serious bite going on. it seemed everyone on the crowded lake was pulling in fish after fish. We had no intentions of fishing on sunday, but that made us turn around, bomb down lake mary road into town, and drive my truck up to see if we could catch the bite. The lake was so crowded that we were forced to the back, where we found a half broken, unstable dock and set up shop. We fished from around 11:00-1:00 and managed 11 fish between us. These fish were all NICE sized stockers. i pulled in a 2.5# on a fly and bubble combo as well.

All around, it was a fun getaway trip, and a good way to kickoff this fishing season for me. I still have never had great luck in mammoth, but i keep expending my knowledge of the area, and finding new spots. sorry for the lack of actual fish-related pictures, I was a bit off my game, I did manage to snap some gorgeous scenery. enjoy.

Great report and nice pics. Fishing in mammoth can be tough at times. I like staying in mammoth as its a central location to other lakes. Twin lakes are good til the weeds grow, maime and gorge are good if you have a float tube/kayak. mary always produces fish, you just have to move around and find the fish.
