Hello everybody, my name is Jang. I've been reading your guys' posts for a long time now and this is my first post.:Big Grin:

My boyfriend (k3vin_kim) seems to be a regular on this website and he checks it every single day. I liked to fish a lot when i lived in Thailand and k3vin has been wanting to take me for a long time so we went over the weekend and it was really fun.

A few weeks ago, we went to Laguna Lake in Fullerton just to get the line wet. It's a very nice park and we walked around and fed the ducks.

As far as the fishing, we caught some blue gills that were not big but it was still fun to see my boyfriend doing what he loves to do.

After catching a few of these really small fish, i could tell that he was getting a little frustrated because he's never been freshwater fishing before... :Head Bang:

Poor guy - i know he was just trying to take me out on a fun date and it WAS a fun date. I thought I'd take the opportunity to poke a little fun at him though...

After catching a bunch of these dinky little fish, my boyfriend looks at me and asks... "do you get seasick? Because this is NOT what i had in mind"

So the next weekend, we go to the Aquarium of the pacific in Long Beach and I got to see all kinds of beautiful fish. Sheepsheads, Yellowtails, White Seabass, Calico Bass, etc...

And after i learned some names of the fish and what they look like, my boyfriend and i went to Channel Islands Sportfishing in Oxnard. We went on a boat called the Cobra. There were 11 other fishermen on the boat.

We left the house at 3 am and got to the dock at 4am. We left and it took a one hour boat ride to get to the spot. When we got there, it was still dark/grey outside and the water was nice and flat. There was a LOT of other boats out there.

and there was some cool wild life to look at too. Like these Sea lions.

We settled in where all the other boats were and i was shown how to use the fishing pole and reel.

We fished in water about 90 to 120 feet. I used the Dropper loop technique with a strip of squid. Within about 3 minutes, i caught my VERY FIRST OCEAN FISH!!! It was a Sand dab.

Then i dropped the hook and weight back down and caught my second fish. A Chuckle head.

k3vin was standing right by my side the whole time coaching me and cheering me on and taking pictures most of the morning. Making sure i did everything right. Fishing is SO MUCH FUN.

Some times the fish were REALLY REALLY heavy but he said "you can do it baby" and i kept on winding and winding.

After a while, i started catching doubles!!

We both caught these ugly fish called lingcods but we had to throw them back in because they weren't big enough yet.

In the afternoon, we moved to some shallower water where there was kelp on the surface. At this spot, we caught a lot of bass. Calico bass, just like the ones we saw at the aquarium.

I'm so proud of you babe. You did such an excellent job on your first trip. You're such a natural. Next, we're gonna learn how to cast and fly line fish. Barracuda are here right now.

To all the regulars on the board: I'm not just saying this but... she seriously has talent. It took her literally 30 minutes to rig up, reel in, take the fish off and re-bait all by herself.

Amazing trip.

dkinla,

Thank you for reading! I'm still learning right now. There r so much stuff to learn. Kevin wanted to take me on a boat that was not crowded, so that would be easier for me to learn on. We didn't get into one Tangle all day. We r gonna go on a barracuda trip soon. I'll post again.

Very nice Jang! Welcome to Fishing Network. I enjoyed reading your report.

Tell Kevin to take you out on a Tradition trip. You'll enjoy fishing out on the water with Morgon and Steven.
