I will need some help with this call. Do you think this is legal? It's pretty darn close but I don't want to take any chances, it's to close to being NOT! I heard Halibut shrink a bit when they die, plus his mouth is open and if' it's taped correctly it could be just short. I'll wait a bit longer and make sure it's a solid legal.
I put the fish back and went back to it.
Here's the conditions if you're interested.

Headed out to the hot spot early in search of some WSB and Halibut, and of course a Surf Sandie or Calico would be great too. Arrived to crazy conditions. The funny thing is my honey hole was pretty flat even with the rough surf and I knew I had a good chance at Landing a flattie.
I took these pictures after the catch, but I wanted to show you the conditions for the day.

Now for the fun part. The wind was blowing pretty hard off shore 10-15 MPH maybe some gusts even more. Water temp was nice at 65 degrees. Even though it was windy it was pretty warm, of course I had a couple layers on. Started early about 6:30 AM and about 15 minutes in I get slammed and feel a good hook up. I start bringing it in and see it's a Hali! Start walking back out of the surf and the fish was only about 10 feet in front of me when the fish pops off. Crap!! So close and decent sized.
Ok back to it let's see if there are others there. This was really fun. I'm wearing my polarized glasses and I get to see something special next. It was just the right timing. I look down as I'm reeling in my plastic and I see this Hali surface as I'm reeling the Hali comes from the surface and I see him divebomb my lure and I set the hook at the perfect time. It felt really good to be able to see the strike, and so clearly. I battled her for 10 minutes and she was fighting hard. I'm telling you catching Hali's from the surf is not easy, especially when there's a lot of structure. But of course you make do. I reel her in and notice she's hanging on by a lip. PHEWWWWW. Was happy and here are the pics.
Is this legal? I'm not taking any chances. Huge fine, no thanks. Next time!!!

The Hali's are on the chew, don't let this weather stop you. Of course be careful as well. Have fun and thanks for reading.
Good luck out there. Lines tight! Oh where oh where is that legal. 2 so very close legal Hali's. LOL I'll keep at it and hopefully soon the fish gods respond.
