After our great little weekend trip, POM and I headed back up 395 in search of some more High Sierra Beauties.... Driving just south of Big Pine on the way up we were right behing the stock truck.. haha... we followed it for a bit but it turned in to get some gas and the stockers weren't our main goal.

McGee Creek - Walked McGee Creek all the way down to Crowley and worked our way back up... POM fished the fly and I worked the spinner (barbless of course) for a few fish each.... There were some large concentrations of fish below the Convict Creek confluence down to Crowley... Wish I would of come across the beautiful cut Greg did... The water and fish in this creek are simply gorgeous

Rush Creek - Rush Creek looked to be in full runoff and cooking... Fishing was a bit slow and only caught a couple a piece... I did manage one 16 inch brown which was nice.

LeeVining Creek - They must of just dumped and these stockers were some of the hardest fighting fish we caught the whole trip... They were 14-17 inches and were leaping a couple feet out of the water when hooked... We had a field day here catching and releasing on the jigs.. On the way home we caught some more with the fly... Unfortunately we didn't take any pictures here.

Kirman Lake - Made the hike into Kirman with our float tubes in hopes of nailing a pig brookie or cut... On the way in we ran into someone working for the DFG asking where we were going but that was it... we tried to hitch a ride but he wasn't up for it.. hahaha.. Got to the lake and saw a school of about 5 20 plus inch cutties cruising the shoreline.... We were like ahhhhh mannnnn.. this is gonna be good.... inflated the tubes and headed out.... fished flies, spinners, and jigs and did not get one single bite... dohhhh.... it was still a scenic hike and we'll get em next time.

West Walker - Fished the West Walker with flies and spinners for probably a dozen average size bows... It was nice to get a few on the fly.... Got a cool picture of snake with a lil mouse in its mouth from this area.

Upper and Lower Twin - Caught and released around 20 stockers (1 brown) from both lakes on the jigs but no size to talk about.

East Walker - Worked the East Walker in another attempt to get a trophy fish (preferably on the fly)... POM worked the fly and I worked the spinner for a fish a piece... got a late start and the EW was crowded.

Virginia Creek - found another hole on Virginia Creek loaded with stockers... Caught several on the fly outta this area.... POM hooked a tree on a backcast and climbed up it to save a fly... haha

Bishop - On the way back home hit our waterways on and off the Lower O .... Highlight was catching the beast brown I got the last trip... hahaha.... this fish was extra mad this time making some long runs before we were able to get him to net... We lost a few more good ones on the way.

Another great trip with beautiful scenery and beautiful fish... POM is putting in the time with the fly rod and continues to improve his skills... Tight Lines and full tails... Enjoy the pics

Great job FSHNVIC! You really covered the area on this trip. The last time I went to the West Walker, we saw a 4 to 5 foot Rattler. Thanks for the report like always. Hit basically hit most of the spots we'll be going to. How far up did you go up the pass for Lee Vining? Almost to Ellery?

Greg - I'm working on it... I have a bit of a bad back and whipping that fly rod can reek havoc (probably because I don't know what I'm doing).. haha You are right though fly fishing is a lot of fun and a lot to learn. I'm stoked I re-caught that same brown (which is now my avatar)... that thing will be 5-6 lbs if it holds over another year, which will be a PB Brownie for me

RiverWalker - We were at that sandtrap (spillway) just a mile or 2 off of 395. I'm sure glad I didn't come across a Rattler... I hate those things.. they used to scare the crap out of me as a kid when I used to fish Bouquet Cyn and Piru Creeks.

I would double that. I've fished that area and had fly fisherman ask me what im using. Im just playing around by the way no offense to fly fishermen out there. But I am serious about the challenge

hahahaha....i would have done a cool spiderman move if i knew u were taking a picture lol This is what happens when......

A) all you know is how to (somewhat) back cast

B) when you've already lost $25 in flies

C) your too pissed to retie (another double rig) since you just tied one on like 5 f*#@^n minutes before lol...the tiny midge dropper is the "reel" biatch

D) or all of the above and your just paying your dues,,,,,,and thats why i stand before you (in a tree), dues aren't cheap these days....VOTE NO on 29 lol

...too bad you didn't get a picture of that tree bending in half

Wow POM. That's a lot of flies. Well I guess it depends on how much you paid for each fly. If you spent an average of $2 per fly then you didn't lose that many. Still a burn out none the less. Based on what you wrote in A), I take it that you didn't do much 'roll' casting? Roll casting is essential when fishing in brushy streams. It's a really easy cast to learn too and and eliminates any line going behind you when casting forward. It probably would of saved you from losing at least 1/2 of the flies that you lost.

Hey FISHNVIC

I think you need to give the Brownie you caught twice a name...

Two bucks? I was paying $3-4 on some of the larger buggers / streamers at the last fly shop on the left in bishop...the one built into the tree. Not as many as it seems, still frustrating though...i hear ya on the roll cast, just started workin on it this last trip.

There's a tackle shop in Lee Vining (the only one I can think of) and their flies were $1.25 two years ago and then I found this place...

www.theflystop.com So far, it's the cheapest place I've found. I'm thinking of trying all the places you mentioned with a Tenkara rod this year.
