For my swimbait setup I use an 8 foot extra extra heavy carrotstick with a calcutta 400 te. It doest the job and I never worry about losing a $40 bait or a 40lb fish, considering I tie into one that is. Also have it spooled with 40 power pro.

Rod: Ugly Stick Tiger lite jigging rod (heavy action 50-100 braid rating) 6'6"

Reel: Okuma Stinson Si 80 spinner (33# plus drag, 300 yds PowerPro 80# braid)

Reasons: Bad shoulder, needed a shorter rod. I prefer spinners to conventional. Price was about $160 with the line.

Success Rate: Skinner and DVL weekly since 2009 ... several dozen DD stripers with 5 over 20#

I'm running with a Dobyns Champion Series, 807 MAG HSB paired up with a Calcuta 400B and love the combo to death. Line? Any quality 25# monofilament.

Rod= Phenix Inshore Assasin 8'-6" ML http://www.phenixrods.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=4
Reel= Curado 300E or sometimes 300EJ
Line= PP 65lb Moss Green with a 2-3' Yo-zuri H.d. leader fluorocarbon

This is also my toad Calico set-up as I do mostly salt bass fishing. It throws a mile with no effort. It also does great as a bama rod and it's not as heavy as one may assume considering it's an 8'-6" rod.
