so my girlfriend wanted to go float tubing and she has never gone so we went to tube silverwood i was in search of some stripers, we planned on launching in the marina but the atm was offline at the tackle store so no where else to pull 10 bucks out of the bank sense silverwood only takes cash or check (stupid i think) we went and launched at the dam we got on the water about 8 i would say. we dragged garlic night cralwers all the way to the inlet for nada, i was also vertical jigging a few different lures for a short bite, and we hooked up to the inlet buoy line and started fishing. i had just gotten a akita 8 in trout swim bait off ebay and had to see how it worked i really wasnt planning on catching anything i just wanted to see how it swam. and on the 3rd cast i thought i hit a rock then the drag started peeling and i caught my first big striper and my first striper on a swim bait. the experience was AWESOME to say the least. i think the striper weighed about 10 give or take 2 or 3 idk it was 25 ish inches long and fat. i didnt have a scale owell. fished there for a little bit and the wind got freaking ridiculous. i lost about a 5 6 pound lmb drop shotting it just outta the water and the hook flew out. after that we decided to head back i then started to continue with the drop shot and hooked up with 5 or so bass withing a hour caught 3 or 4 i forgot. had a great time. wind sucked though!!! thanks to seal for helping me out with a lot of info!!!! here are some pics i took throughout the day.

Well the nightcrawlers didn't work but the swimbait did, I'd prefer that bite anyway if I were you!

You guys are hardcore--esp w you pullin' your girl around in the wind--I'm not the best example in the world when it comes to safety BUT do get some life vests and at least stash them behind the seat. Nice striper!!!!

Not just that but when you are out by the dam the patrols are going to be a little more concerned about you not having one, might give you a ticket or at the very least tell you to get off the water. Over in Cleghorn they are probably less likely to mess with you with the swimbeach being there and less wind and no boats to deal with. I have seen the Coast Guard out there before also, very rare, but if they see you there is no doubt you'll get a little talking to! Was kind of surprised to see them on the lake but definitely saw the markings on the boat.

i didn't know they enforced the life vest law i have one and i have pulled it behind me or put it in the back before but not this trip. i will from now on though i cant afford a dumb ticket like that. thanks for the info!!!!

Thanks everyone!!! It was a blast anyone have any idea what it might of weighed?????? Just a guess???

A 26" super fat Silverwood striper (17.25" girth), measured with closed mouth to Fork of tail weighed 8lbs 11oz.
A 28.25" fattie weighed 10 lbs 6 oz.
So I am guessing that one is 6 and a half pounds?

I was out there last wednesday. All the way at the west end of the dam where the rocks end. I got the BIG O SKUNK, anchovies, swim baits, every thing, Not even a bite. I like to think that it had something to do with that full moon we had a couple days before that. 1st time out this year for me was kind of a let down. Usually do really good in that spot. Use to fish the Wood every weekend a few years back. Always killed the stripers there, and a nice cat once in a while. Havent posted on here in a while either. It seems like these forums have kind of slowed way down. There was always alot of posts here and in the saltwater report sections. I Was thinking of going out this week again but my buddy hit me up and we are going to Catalina friday night-saturday morning. I will definetly be going back to the wood this coming week. Hope that PIGS big brother is looking to eat when I am out there. Hell of a report bud great fish, that lmb ur ol lady caught was a healthy fish. Hopefully Ill have a good report from the Island on saturday, and as good a report as U gave when I go tackle the wood again.

Youre about right on the money with my calculations and I weigh almost every single striper I catch from silverwood.

Still awesome day for you two! I wish I could get my wife on a float tube...or even fishing for that matter lol.
