My pops and i decided to hit up SARL friday night for the buy one get one free deal. We got there around 5pm and we set up in the catfish lake to fish for kitties since the trout fishing is horrible. At first it was pretty slow but picked up as it got dark. I was first to get a bite but missed the hook set. So i casted out again and i few minutes later 2 rods get hit at the same time. I missed mine again but my hooked his. He brought it in and it was a silver channel cat around 1 lb. Since i had missed the first two i changed the hook for a different one. By now it was dark and it was pretty calm with no action. Finally i get a hit on my rod and i set the hook. This time i managed to hook it since i had changed the hook. I brought it to shore and it was a nice 1 lber. From then on we were getting bit on and off and we ended the night with 9 cats. Biggest one was around 1 1/2 lbs. We missed several others but i guess it wasnt too bad for the first cats of the season at SARL.

Yeah we would have limited if i would have landed one of the others. Its still not bad for half price though.

I was there that day but from morning until afternoon .. trout bite was none existent , buddy was going for cats and didnt get one , we cought a couple bass , and I ended the day with a 7 1/2lb carp .

Yeah the trout are done there. Where did your buddy fish for the cats?

Oh. They stocked the cats in the catfish lake. Thats where we fished.

I actually asked where they stalked and they stocked both the big lake and catfish lake . seen another guy pull up a couple from under the trout holding pens by the dock .

Yeah its always good to have a few different baits because you never know what they want.

Well i didnt ask them. I saw the stocking video and it only showed that they stocked the catfish lake. They might have put some in the big lake or the ones the guy caught might have been holdovers.

my go to bait is the M&M combo but im thinking about hitting the pier a day before from some fresh mackarell . Ill probably be up there this weekend

Ive used the m&m combo a few times but have never had luck luck. Maybe its because i mostly fish night time. Day time it probably works well because they can see it. Fresh mack is always a good choice.
